For those of you wondering I am going to make a video about the Picopresso at a later date! I picked up a Minipresso GR recently and want to show off how Wacaco has evolved their lineup in the past years. I chose not to discuss it here as I wanted to focus the conversation around accessibility. While the Picopresso is the best portable maker it is quite a bit more expensive than the Staresso, Nanopresso, and Neo. I'll be showing the Picopresso off at a later date. Feel free to add any comments regarding that if you're interested!

what are your thoughts about the Hugh Leverpresso? seems like a very solid product and design. and price is about 100USD and uses 51mm basket with entire ecosystem of accessories.

If you're using dark roast coffee *and you like dark roast coffee* it works. If you don't like those charred, ashy parts of coffee then it's *bad*

I use medium roast because it is less bitter. I have an unpressurised porta filter running on the cheap 20-bar Espresso machine. I do not find much difference but I am still a novice. I shall experiment with more options. I shall use Staresso equivalent as my main Espresso machine especially with reusable Nespresso pods. This is the advantage of Staresso over Wacaco.

Might be worthwhile to put a disclaimer that you work for Fellow who makes the Prismo?

Added that in the desc! Thanks for mentioning it. Would not buy the Prismo + AP over any of the portable options though (especially the picopresso).

@@tommihommi1 I have the Picopresso and Flair Classic. The Picopresso is easier to use, produces espresso that's clearly better (both in terms of taste and body), is easier to set up and takes up way less space in the bag. Trust me, it's a game changer. BTW, I also have a Handpresso and a Nanopresso, but they are far far behind when it comes to the quality of espresso. Lastly, pro tip: Check with your host/hotel if they already have a kettle before bringing your own. More often than not, I can leave mine at home (or at least I could when I was traveling pre-pandemic).

Hi, just so you know. Staresso has a newer model that can be bottomless and uses standard/vst 51mm unpressurised basket. I have been using it for a long time and im sure that is real espresso. Staresso mirage sp-300

I think this is the wrong way to think about the pricing: the $70 thing is real expensive per cup when you never use it a second time.

Looks like its time to make a vid about the Staresso Sp300 with bottomless mod, sir Brian 😁 I think it is the cheapest non pressurized espresso maker, would be much more interesting if it is pitted against Caflano Kompresso and maybe Leverpesso?

Brian, I definity know some companies will send you more for you to experience, is kind of handy machine are getting a hit On and Off in 2021 in Asia, very compact and some latest one do the job in the ESPRESSO range of 1 to 2 ratio with 12-18 grams base coffee, 51mm diameter flat basket claim up to 12bars. cleaning up is a bit pain at the end for me. Keep having fun...

Nice video, I hope in the future you can have a comparison of those portable manual machines from different companies like the staresso, wacaco, barsetto, 1zpresso & some other China, hk or two brand. Thanks for the time.

1:07 I had an early Nanopresso (gifted to me) and actually blew it apart with a too-fine grind, so yeah. I don't miss it one bit, though I hear the Picopresso fixes some of the stuff I hated with it (tl;dr: very low payback/effort ratio)

I feel this conversation was incomplete. Wacaco has kinda changed the game with the picopresso. This setup allows for more true espresso with the use of a proper portafilter basket. Many reviewers have even said it outperforms the Flair Neo. I think this device, since it is now the cutting edge of portable espresso devices, should have been included in the discussion here.

Going to be showing off the picopresso at a later date! I decided to keep things super cheap here as in other countries (phillipines) the picopresso is much more expensive than the staresso mini and even more expensive than the Neo. It is the most expensive portable maker (if you aren't counting the Nomad which IMO is superior to the picopresso) and I'll be covering it a bit later. Trying to show off the Minipresso GR and how it evolved into the Picopresso :)

I wonder if the Moka Pot might also be in consideration to be called a near espresso-like brew maker. I don’t believe that any of those handheld devices generate 9 bars of pressure, at least from what I remember of James Hofmann’s reviews…

I donot agree that the Staresso does not work with lighter roast coffee. I get good results. when you compare the Staresso with the Aeropress. You need double the amount of coffee compare to the Staresso. That makes it more expensive.

This is a really cool perspective! Out of curiosity, how does this work with pre-ground coffee? If you were to get one of these and then buy coffee that is labelled as for espresso, would that work or would that be too fine?
@BrianQuan
2 жыл бұрын
This actually would work decently with preground coffee. Even though shops may label bags as espresso grind they most likely aren't near true espresso grind and work better for folks with pressurized baskets (like the one found in the Mini!).
