I use to think Diecast was always great. But Not so much anymore. I think it should be used sporadically in sections like maybe the thighs, shims and maybe feet. But I think the most important thing is the Choise in Materials. Personally IMO mmc Ocular Max always seem to get it Right!! They have a perfect Balance between a premium feel that still maintains the properties of a Playable Action Figure! FTs just goes overboard and the figures feel like statues that you can barely manipulate or are not Fun to mess with. Xtransbots do use it well but sometimes that choice in plastics absolutely kill them. That Soft Gummy Cheap Plastic that's known to easily stress and break. Smh!! Great video Mike.

Great topic - not something I hear other transformers commentators talk about. Well done! For me, it’d be great if at a minimum, the feet of all Masterpiece figures be Die Cast. For individual bots, ultimately it comes down to the transformation & how thick they can apply the paint. I lurve Die Cast, haha. And I see your point about combiners, it makes complete sense. “Grab the Goose” sounds like a double entendre 😂😂

Wow. Where do I even begin? Initially, I didn't care about the diecast scene as far as MPs go. My first was MP24 Starsaber, who aside from the jet thrusters in his V-Star "trailer" and the cannons at the front (the tips of the super mode shoulders), didn't really have any diecast at all. MP13 Soundwave only has it in his feet, which is fine and a moot point - two beefy chunks on a fairly large figure (but not as big as Starsaber's super mode). Along came the Infinite Transformation KO of MP36...not to mention KuBianBao's legendary MP10V (that Voyager sized MP10 that's based more on Wei Jiang's MPP10 - the five vents on the shins are a dead giveaway). Whoooooo...lemme see. Megatron straight out the box had an issue with his left foot (the rivet used was too short to hold the thing together). The feet are among the things that are diecast. Optimus was fine until I learned the hard way he actually wasn't when one of the wheel covers snapped off: the cover itself is diecast, but half of that double hinge it's on is plastic. Worse yet, the pins in the plastic side are too wide. So it eventually cracked and snapped off. That was a poor materials choice (ditto for the diecast waist/crotch assembly, nothing has happened, but it definitely doesn't seem like a smart idea). One of the feet (also diecast) snapped off at the ankle. Doesn't stop me from enjoying the figures, though. Since then...the Legendary Toys KO of MPM4 Optimus Prime has some diecast (not much, I don't even recall where), but it's a design nightmare with them weak ankles that are apparently break bait even with the real MPM4. I don't recall if the MP44 or MP49 KOs have any, I think MP43 BW Megatron only has it in the heel spurs for robot mode...the only one I have who REALLY seems to go ham on it is the MP56 Trailbreaker KO. The hood and almost the entirety of the legs from the red part that hides the knee joint down are diecast (the knee parts and the gray chunks just below the red trim on the shins are still plastic). The Eagle KO of the MP52 Seeker mold has diecast feet and jet intakes (odd choice), but the transformation experience of my copy was NOT great. But back to Trailbreaker, he seems like he's got almost as much diecast as Megatron. Which is fine, I guess. 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️ It's okay, I suppose, but it's not a mandatory thing for me.

For me, die-cast metal is useful in a figure, but not necessary. I've got figures that work just fine without any - Takara's current Seeker mold, for example. I think, though, that there's a bit of a nostalgia factor going on as well, since the early G1 toys (i.e. the ones imported from older Japanese toy lines) almost invariably had at least one piece of die-cast metal in their construction: Optimus Prime's chest, Sunstreaker's feet, the hoods on the Fairladies, the torsos of the Seekers, etc. Even the mini cars would get in on it, like the black plates on the backs of Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, and Bumper. And speaking of Bumblebee, he's the only MP figure I got in G2 repaint - just because I liked the gold better than the yellow.

I like the die cast but it’s not absolutely necessary for me to collect TFs. If the figure is going to be all plastic, then it must still look premium. An example of that would be the Binaltech vs Alternators. I initially started with Binaltech but once I saw that the Altenators looked almost as well with a lesser price point, then I went with Altenators.

Honestly Viper is probably my favorite out of the Fanstoys aerialbots because its so much fun to transform. Didn't even miss the die-cast and for the combined form it makes sense not too use die-cast to throw it off balance when posed in dynamic poses. Great video

Thing is compared to goose and Iceman I don't see much less diescast. Goose has thighs heel spurs and toes and shoulders. Iceman has toes heel spurs shoulders and the long armature for the plane kibble. Viper has shoulders toes and hips (behind the skirt) and hardware (hips and the combiner elbow parts. So it's almost equal.

Diecast is great for small parts that may break. My KO Cyclonus broke the first time I transformed him because of a poorly cast small part that literally twisted off the figure rather than act as a rotation point.

I like diecasts but, if they don't have it, I'm ok with it. I prefer paint, articulations and transformation over diecasts. They can have diecasts but a terrible transformation and I'm not buying. Xtransbots comes to mine when they have a really good figure only to have it ruined by overcomplicated unnecessary over engineered transformation. I do like rubber tires over plastic though on my Masterpieces.

Die cast is great when it makes sense, but to me does not automatically make a figure feel premium. It helps sure, but my mmc bruticus(except vortex) feels premium to me, especially compared to the transformers I got in the 90's growing up. For a combiner, I'd rather just be strong plastic, but individual figures, die cast is welcome as long as it's built and structured to handle it without breakages.

My MP-01 Optimus and Magnus both ended in the trash can after all the paint on the metal parts peeled off. Worst part is I kept them both in their boxes from day one and when I finally broke them out to display them, they were nothing but trash. I never got to enjoy them. I say include metal in the skeleton and plastic on the outside.

I dont mind diecast but it depends on how the paint gets applied. I have no issues with any of the fanstoys diecast chipping (Vibe/jazz is the only fanstoys figure with paint chipping and it's all on the plastic parts) but XTB just uses a paint that peels off on its own (Fuzz, jocund, overheat, deathwish, crackup, peaen, neptune) not all of my xtb have issues but alot do, and its only on the diecast (and the tampo paint rubs off) for whatever reason. Viper seems to have less weight but not due to lack of diecast. As far as I can tell hes on par with the other two limb bots released. Goose has the diecast thighs over Iceman and Viper though.

Also note Goose and Iceman have the trapazoids ( the rails for combine mode around the neck) are diecast. Likely to support the whole combiner weight.

I have no G2 recolour figures, I've never been a big fan of the G2 colour schemes. MP3 has one die-cast hinge for the back flap. Otherwise, it's completely plastic. I feel like die-cast in figures isn't necessary. But, I'd be lying if I said that I didn't and don't like it. But it reminds me of some of the G1 toys.

I don't care about diecast as long as the figure looks good, my problem with Fanstoys is in the style of their figures, cartoon like Transformers look bad and stupid IMO, figures like their Beachcomber, Brawn, Cliffjumper, Pipes, their alt modes look like boxes on wheels, they look nothing like the RL vehicles, this loses the "robots in disguise" argument for me.
