With the THR, I think, you have to be more aware of the output level of (at least) the last pedal in your chain. With a high output pedal, the THR runs into saturation rather fast, which may interfere with what the pedal is supposed to do to the sound. It's saturating a little too early for my taste, but *gosh*! That saturated sound they built into the THR is so good I usually just use a booster or an eq: "woman tone as ordered, sir ..."

I think you generally get a better sound for chorus, reverbs, delay and tremolo AFTER the yamaha cab simulator, especially if you use crunch/overdrive from the yamaha. This is important if you are using stereo effects pedals because using the THR input you will lose the stereo, which is a shame because the THR is stereo. Here is how to do it. Read carefully before trying, as you could hurt your ears with feedback loop: - you will need the app to avoid a feedack loop. (Start with low volume in case you use the wrong setting). Go in the app configuration (top right wheel) and turn guitar/audio all the way left. This will stop audio from AUX to go through line out. - plug you pre-cab effects in the yamaha standard guitar INPUT. (wah, compressor, overdrives…) - plug your post-cab pedals chain IN to the yamaha line out, behind the THR. (See note below.) - plug your post-cab chain OUT to the THR AUX. Be careful what cable you are using, the AUX is stereo. - slowly put the master volume up to check if it’s working - tip: you can keep the signal before FX by using the "guitar" knob. 0 to only hear the signal after the FX. This look like this: Guitar > compressor > overdrive > THR INPUT > [ internal effects ] > THR OUT (stereo) > CHORUS > DELAY > REVERB > LOOPER > Yamaha AUX You can use a looper with this technic and stack different FX on it. Note: If you are not using effects on the Yamaha, the output will be the same for L/R. However, if you enable some effects (like chorus) the output becomes STEREO. If you are using mono pedals I don’t recommend using stereo effects on the yamaha, it will sound muddy.

I tried it with my OCD, Thorpy Cloud and my Barber Gain Changer SR. Only the Barber sounded good. I prefer the Drive sounds on the actual amp. My pedals (however) sound killer with clean Tube Amp's. Nice Demo (as always) Drew.

I have the Yamaha THR10II, and it works great with fuzz/distortion pedals (Big Muff and an old DOD Death Metal Distortion pedal). The only caveat for me is that the Speaker Tuning feature in the app needs to be set to Open instead of Focus. With it set to Focus, the volume can drop abruptly for seemingly no reason (works fine without said pedals). Just my two cents ✌️🎶🎵🎶

Hey! Thanks so much for sharing your insight! I'll have to check out the open and focus speaker settings, I don't think I've messed around with that too much.

I'm guessing something like a EVH 5150 Overdrive or Metal Zone that works better as a preamp replacement isn't going to work well with a THR. Ideally you'd plug it into an effects return, but that isn't an option here. It'd really be nice if you could turn on just the cab sim in flat mode.

There's definitely no option to run a pedal as an effects loop. I think the EVH or Metal Zone would be fine to run into the front, just don't blast the level too loud!

I have a question. I heard that people use gain from the amp and then use the overdrive pedal just to change the sound/tone. In your case, you are using clean setting instead of gain/drive setting. If your goal is to use overdrive sound by connecting an overdrive pedal, wouldn't it work better if you already have gain setting from the amp with the drive setting on?

Good question I also use gain and overdrive or distribution pedal but in that case too much noise happened so I had to put very low volume of gain from amp..I will try with clean setting with distortion tomorrow

As below I had same question so I tried with clean channel instead of gain with distortion (Nux ) pedal and I got very nice tone with far less noise. When I used this mini amp thr one of main problem was very big noise when I use gain mode with distortion but now I have still heavy yet much less noise (FYI Nux is already very metal type distortion so if you put full gain and master full volume then still you can get good metal sound through clean setting )

My experience with trying to feed some pedals to my THR 30 is not good, actually...the sound result is thin and artificial. But probably it's just me not having found the right way to set the controls. Maybe.
@DrewCreal

Yeah the key is to dial back the output level of the pedal so it doesn't over-power the THR input, good luck!

Hi Drew. thanks for the great vids. Quick question, can you play drum apps, ie ezdrummer, loops etc through the thr30?
@DrewCreal
Жыл бұрын
You absolutely can, but you'll have to connect to the amp via bluetooth. I'm always practicing to drum apps like Drum Genius and Groove a Day. If you want to jam to EZ drummer what I would do is bounce out the drum loops you've created and email the mp3 to yourself, then play the loop from your phone via bluetooth to the THR. Just an idea for you. Take care and thanks for watching!

Can you get stereo effect pedals working in stereo with the amp?

Awesome amp, except I cannot seem to use a wah wah pedal with it while having a wireless guitar connection. I've tried expression pedal Hotone Soul Tone 2, with AIRSTEP. Can't assign a wah sound as the AMP doesn't have a wah effect. Only Chorus, flanger,temelo and phaser.....so any ideas a wah is a must!! WIRELSS YAMAHA WAH? Do they even make one..?? Thoughts?? I do not want a cable from my guitar, as buying this gear was all for the purpose of being wireless. Solutions anyone??

Hi Drew. Do you know of a way to use pedals without losing the wireless function on the 30ii Wireless amp? Also, would stereo pedals come out dual mono in your DAW? Thank you!

Your best bet would be to check out the U2 Wireless System from XVive, you can plug your pedals into the THR and then put the "Receiver" into your first pedal, then the "Transmitter" into your guitar and now you're playing wirelessly. Enjoy! Here's a link: amzn.to/3LgxlEb
