Giri and Carlsen both knew most of the positions. The difference is that Carlsen knew which move Anand made and why. Every time.

@@lolololololololol11 Hikaru had different type of practise. He never learnt from previous games. He learnt by playing infinite number of matches. Therefore he doesn't remember Anand's games. Moreover he said that Anand didn't make the strongest move in only one game. Which might be true because in Anand's days computer analysis was not common and Anand never played to match computer moves. So the point is, disrespecting Hikaru just because he had different point of view is absolutely childish.

To me this is the most impressive thing GMs do. I can see the blindfold play and u memorizing lines but to recall positions from games you werent even in from years ago is just crazy to me

It's really unfair to compare generations. Comparing Vishy with Carlsen and so on. In his prime time,ie, teens Vishy and chess players of those times had no computer access and could analyse lot less. But carlsen and modern players at their teens could easily analyse using computer and so they it has a huge advantage on them. As at teen our memory grows to humongous level and what we learn it stays with us forever.

@@imSaicat in chess you have to compare age and gender it makes a lot of difference.Magnus is indeed one of the greatest players but he is in his primes whereas Anand is in the age of retirement.There will be a kid who will beat Magnus tomorrow.But Magnus is the best right now. Let's see who can beat him.

They are super GMs rated above 2700 for a reason :) oh and that's how they prepare for their opponents. Fischer learnt Russian to study the Soviet school books to beat them. Kasparov revealed in one interview how he modified old and refuted openings like Evan's Gambit, to surprise his opponents.

Most likeable gm. I love Carlsen but Anish is the most human and relatable edit: Carlsen breezed through all position till beliavsky and even thought it was not him because of the najdorf. I’m glad chess is not my career. All these super gms scare me

We don't know if Anish will be WC some day. He is an absolute genius of chess, even if Calrsen is still better. Honestly, Magnus seems to be several steps over all other chess players, but someday he can lose his crown, and Giri is one of the natural candidates to take it.
