Very helpful! Thank you! I am just scratching the surface of this field after my dad had a stroke and learns how to speak again.

Hey love 💕 super inspired by your Journey ! I have a bachelors degree in Psychology but low gpa. I have a few questions, do you think I should get another bachelors degree in CSD instead of taking post bacc courses ? Or just take the pre-reqs to take the slpa exam. My plan is to become an SLPA before grad school.

Hey girl! So glad you're following along! It's a tricky question because it depends on if you have the time and are willing to pay the money for another degree. I think it is helpful to have had acquired the bachelors degree prior to beginning grad school. You could take the pre-reqs and become an SLPA but grad school programs can be difficult to get in to so it depends on if you want to take the chance applying. Most programs do value SLPA experience as well as other experiences as a 'well rounded student' but either way is possible!

Hi! Love the advice you're giving in this video. Question: I've been out of college and in the work force for about 4 years now and I have my BA in Communication Studies and interested in pivoting to Speech therapy. I have no prereqs so would you recommend I enroll part time to get those reqs before applying for my masters? are there any programs you recommend that cater to those without prereqs? Thanks!

I want a BA degree but all of the schools that are accredited through ASHA are expensive! $420 per unit. I can't afford that. So I guess I'm getting a second AA degree but in slpa studies.

That definitely would be frustrating but it all depends on if you really want to go for it or do something else! Either way just do something you’re passionate about and it will be worth it 😊

Hi , I am doing my undergraduate classes to become a special educator, however I’ve become very interested in the slp field. Is there a way I can get both ? And if it’s better to do first one or the other ? Hope this makes sense. Thank you.

Hi there! Not an expert, but perhaps you can look into a double major of special ed and SLP or Comm. Sciences and Disorders. From there you could decide which path is drawing you in more and decide on post grad work? It depends where you are in your undergraduate degree and what your institution offers.

If you are already getting a B.A. in Comm dis then it would be the same. Its called 'communication sciences and disorders' as a major for undergrad

Hello, I have a question and hopefully you can help me out. I currently have 24 credit hours but since my GPA was at a 2.9 (they require for me to have at least a 3.0). I don't know what my next steps should be and I really need guidance. I live in Texas and in order for me to get my SLP-A I need the 24 credit hours (which I have) but I'm just lost. I don't know what to do and I really want to finish my 2nd BS in this field. Unless I should try and go for my masters now?

I am curretly doing a ba in childhood and youth studies. One module I have taken is on communication and languages, 60 credits for that module, of a total of 360 credits for the full ba. Is that good enough as a pre requisites or would I need to re do more specific topics for slt masters.

Hey there! Really like your vibe:) Please correct me if im wrong, at 2:45 did you mean we can get into a masters degree without having a bachelor at all? also i am from a developing country and have passed high school long time ago and have a study gap (im already 28) but I really want to study and become a SLP! I want to study this in The USA. So is there any chance for me of not spending time on a bachelor and just do the Pre-requisite courses and start Grad School? And as an international student how can i take the pre-requisites? Thanks so much for the help xx
@emilyyelizabethdavio

Hey! Yes so one option is to bypass getting your bachelors and just get your masters. However to be able to apply to a masters program you need to take several prerequisite courses (which help basically get you caught up and familiar with the field) and then you can continue your studies. Yes you can study this as an international student I think you just need to ensure you have a student visa if you do not have US citizenship. Let me know if you have anymore questions!

@@emilyyelizabethdavio thanks so much for your quick reply xx yes sis actually i have many questions for you! I would come as an international student, so * where and how do i apply for the pre-requisite courses? *do i need GRE if i want to catch the spring 2023 Masters? As i learned GRE is not needed this year. * is it extremely hard to get admission in Grad schools for this masters? How should I prepare myself? Or is it not so hard for the internationals as they pay higher? * i was also thinking of coming to do an Associates Degree in Speech Language Pathology, so if i do that can i get into masters after that without perusing a BSc in Speech Language Pathology? * i have just learned for Bachelor there are BA and BSc for Speech language pathology, So how can i search for an associate in *science* speech language pathology degree? and not arts. * just to double check this subject of ours is a STEM designated subject right? Do you have any idea if I’ll get a period of time to work here after finishing my Associates degree? * could you please give us an idea about scholarships or how we can get wavier throughout the semesters. Also will good result in semesters secure wavier. Thanks so much! Looking forward to hearing from you

You would have to verify with the specific school you are applying to to see what credits they would accept if any. Then take the necessary courses that need to be fulfilled :)

Unfortunately you have to find and attend a school that offers it and is accredited. So you could finish your major and then find a program that offers it otherwise I would transfer and change majors asap so you can get started on that track 😊

You can take the prerecs for speech to apply to grad school and complete the observation hours but they will be harder to follow and take extra work since they typically presume you are familiar with everything coming from undergrad. It's still possible though! Or you can go back for another bachelors in communication sciences and disorders (speech) and then apply to graduate programs :)
