honestly, i've grown a hatred of a serger. i'm a new sewer and my goal is simply to make things for myself. dresses, clothes, skirts. EVERY tutorial i see uses one without any explanation of how to do it WITHOUT one. those machines range from 300+ dollars, i just bought a brand new sewing machine. to do any of the tutorials i have seen i'd have to spend 1000 bucks on machine alone plus an extra couple hundred for supplies JUST to do some at home, nothing special, for myself and others projects. UHM, no. i saved up JUST to buy some basic sewing machine for months. It's quiet discouraging honestly to see people have this machine, say it's a necessity to making clothes even if it's NOT stretch material and think... well that seems like a goddamn luxury unless you have a business for sewing or maybe even a passion beyond just someone like me. it CAN'T be a necessity... how many decades have people been making ball gowns and crazy clothes with JUST a sewing machine? all of a sudden now we have this luxury machine we can have at home and it's a necessity to modern sewing? idk. it's made me rethink making my own clothes and garments and second guess picking up this hobby.

Thanks for the info. Don't really know much about sergers. My machine only does single and zig zag Stitch. It's an old dressmaker from the 50s. But it works!
