Hello friends, I am Melih Bektaş. Today is a very special day for me because exactly one year ago I resigned from the police and changed my life completely. I have been a full-time traveler for a year and I will answer the questions I am asked the most during this process.
First question: "Do you regret it?"
I must say that there are some decisions in life that once you make them, there is no turning back. But you never forget why you made that decision. Being a police officer was a job I did for many years, but I could not suppress my passion for discovery any longer. I always wanted to see and discover more. So no, I do not regret it. Is it easy? Definitely not. But waking up to a new view every morning and meeting new people from different corners of the world taught me the true meaning of freedom.
Second question: "How do you get by?"
I hear this question so often! Although being a traveler may seem romantic from the outside, there is serious planning and effort behind the scenes. Right now, making KZitem videos and producing content is my main source of income. I am able to continue this life with collaborations and sponsors. Discovering new cultures in the places I travel is a passion, but turning it into a source of income is the most important part of being able to continue this life.
Third question: "Wasn't it difficult to make this decision?"
I must admit that leaving a job behind is not easy. However, there are times in life when you have to listen to your heart. Resigning was a courageous step, but the fears I had before taking this step were replaced with freedom and excitement after I took it. Now, I am living a new adventure with every new step.
Another question: "Couldn't you travel without resigning?"
Yes, many people can travel without resigning. But for me, traveling was not just about traveling, it was about becoming a lifestyle. I wanted to fully devote myself to this path and achieve freedom in the mental and spiritual sense. If I had continued my job, traveling would have been an escape, but now traveling has become my lifestyle.
And of course, another frequently asked question: "What can I do if I resign?"
This was the question I thought about the most. Leaving a regular job like being a police officer was like stepping onto an uncertain path at first. But I asked myself this question: "What do I really want to do in life?" If you are going to resign, you definitely need to have a plan. My plan was to turn my dream into a lifestyle. Although it may seem difficult at first, if you have a goal that you are passionate about, you can overcome any obstacle. Starting a blog, producing content on KZitem, starting different collaborations... These were my steps after resigning. The key to everything is discovering what you really want to do.
Finally, don't be afraid to follow your dreams. Life is short and one day when you look back, it will be the best thing to say "thank goodness" instead of "if only."
