As a drum teacher.. YOU CAN ALWAYS IMPROVE, There is literally no limit to what you can do on ANY instrument. It all takes time and patience, find what you can't do and take it slow and speed it up, you'll find a limit but you'll get past it with time
@toastyskateralt4725

Yeah I second this I’m a drum student but I’ve been playing 8 years and I thought I hit my cap a couple years ago and felt like giving up but after sitting in my drum room practicing over and over especially learning to read notation helped I finally felt like I was improving and after those years of not being able to play stuff like frank zapa and king crimson I can now play pretty much anything from dream theater so even if you feel like you can’t do any better you can always improve it just takes reaching out farther than you think you can and making whatever you are trying to learn your bitch and practice it consistently
@doofs
Жыл бұрын
it's really odd to say, but unlike any other instrument drums are all muscle based. like, lets say your "limit" is left hand speed. you probably understand proper technique with your right hand, but the reason your left can't do it is that the muscles haven't been developed yet. you can easily change that with practise. to grow you'll always have to find new challenges to surpass untill you conquer them, if you accept something as impossible you stop growing.
@lil_redspun
Жыл бұрын
@@doofs actual all instruments are technically muscle based, even singing is at least similar, training your vocal chords to do what you want them to do. Training your fingers to do whatever you need them to do applies to every single instrument, I believe every instrument is a balance of knowledge and "chops."

Seán, as a musician there is nothing more disheartening loosing the love for your instrument/instruments. Life comes eve and flows. When you feel the inspiration a short would be cool just you having a fun jam. Mucking around in music is a very fun thing, but also having a channel and having your content view point/s for others to see may be it's own challenge. Look after you and I think the world is just happy with you creating what you want to create. Life has enough pressures and music in my opinion is just another possible outlet for inspiration to grow. Look after yourself, your partner, fur babies, and family as always.

I play drums and I struggle to get myself to practice but honestly it's not fully a lie when you hear people saying that practice makes "perfect" because practice definitely makes progress. I don't take lessons anymore but I have a drum pad I do rudiments on to warm up. Even simple things to get my hands moving like accent practices where you do 16 notes and each bar you change which of the 4 notes you're accenting. Things like that. And then I just play music in my headset and mess around to it. That's what's helped me improve at least because it's like practicing with a band. I have a basis though of what goes well with the song from what the original drummer played and I can kind of get creative from there. Drums are supposed to be fun and a creative outlet. If it's more of a laid back hobby then that's ok. If it's something that plays a larger role in your life then that's ok too. If you enjoy it then don't give up, just do what you like and improvement will happen as you go. If you don't as much then do whatever makes you happy and play only as long as it's fun

I'm 21, and I just recently, around age 20, started taking lessons off and on. It's a semester thing, and sometimes I can't get in a slot, and I miss the semester. I was taking some from an old church friend, but she seemed to get super impatient with me, and so I haven't seen her in a while. I still suck at it after all these years. Like... just how? I am literally going to d*e without ever doing what I want to do...

I used to struggle with an extremely similar mindset and figured that, because I wrestled with my motivation and initial skill level so hard that, I must just not be cut out to be a musician... But what ended up being my accidental breakthrough was not preemptively "changing my mind" about the "limitations of my abilities," it was actually borne of a growing resignation that time is flying by/life is way too short and that discomfort forced me to realize that I actually didn't care what others thought of my abilities, it's going so quick anyways. I realized I didn't actually care if other would ever consider me "any good"- that's subjective thing, anyway, and I just wanted to find out for my own sake, once and for all, what I was capable of and how far I could push that. Who cares if nobody can appreciate that? I decided I wasn't going to let anyone stop me from exploring my potential, including my own insecurities. Because when you want something, you really owe it to yourself to at least make your best effort to pursue it, because if you just simply can't convince yourself to make that best-effort then perhaps you actually more owe it to yourself to just let it go instead of continuing on with making excuses for yourself which diffuses and wastes your energy. Making a decision in this regard requires extreme honesty with yourself, and that's always a scary trial.

I remember not having as much time to play guitar because of other priorities. Coming back after months of not even touching my guitar felt like walking for the first time. I just had to start from scratch and learn each note again. I get that feeling of frustration of not being as good as I used to be. But then I remember the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place: To stick it to the man with rock and roll. Knowing I at least tried was good enough for me.

Awesome to see you having them set up! Seeing my dad have his drum set in storage didn't hit me until I grew up. Such a big part of his life set aside for taking care of us, it's such a sacrifice I wish I understood sooner :')
