Thank you so much this will help a lot I’m probably gonna try to taxidermy a bluegill as my first this will totally help, just one question though would I be able to use stuffing as a substitute for foam because I don’t have a good enough knife to cut foam but anyway, thanks.

What's the model podge for? Do you have to take scales off the fish ?
@beginnerstaxidermyguide8459
2 жыл бұрын
Modge podge is for the back of that fins to help the tissue paper stay and give the fins some durability. The scales do not have to come off!

Thanks for the vid man, do you buy your paint from mckenzies based on what it tells you to use in the book? Also how are you suspending your fish to paint them
@beginnerstaxidermyguide8459
5 жыл бұрын
No problem thanks for the comment! Yes in the book it shows what color each fish needs and I buy accordingly. Many fish have similar color usage so once you do a few you should have the colors that can do most fish!

Why did you paint the fish? Is It optional or is it to make the fish look cooler?

Awesome video thanks for posting it! Does the white paper for the fins goes in front or the back of the fins? I guess it is a special kind of paper.Also what kind of airbrush are you using? thank you
@beginnerstaxidermyguide8459
5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. It only goes on the back of the fins, it’s basic plain white tissue paper that you can pretty much buy anywhere Walmart or a party store. I use “master airbrushes” they’re pretty cheap but I’ve found that they work just fine for me. Let me know if you have other questions.

my pet goldfish is still in the freezer, honestly thinking about stuffing him. Hes about 6 inches long. He had something wrong with him and didnt grow well. He died alongside 4 other fish when my cycle crashed in the tank. He was my baby

Alexis Wilson well sorry to hear that! My wife’s family had a gold fish that died and I told them I would stuff it and they didn’t want that at all! But I think it could be done, might be a little weird though if you were really attached to him!

Awesome video man I never realized how possible this actually is. Do you know how a person would “pose” the fish a bit? And how do you get it to stay on your background log?
@beginnerstaxidermyguide8459
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, yes it’s very possible to do! You can carve your fish with the desired curve or motion you want. I have done it but it’s always easiest to do a basic one but can easily be done.

@beginnerstaxidermyguide8459

That might be a bit difficult to do. If you are a talented artist it may be possible to hand paint them but I have found an airbrush to be much more forgiving when painting.

Alright everything else doesn't look too hard but time consuming. Except the painting and spray painting might be a little tricky especially with no experience. I always wanted to try one but don't have the tools.
@beginnerstaxidermyguide8459
4 жыл бұрын
Spray painting was the toughest to get the hang of, but when you do a few fish it becomes easier. I’ve found out less is more when painting, not overdoing too much paint is the biggest thing I think! I plan on doing some give away in the future and may give away some airbrushes etc. stay tuned, otherwise all the materials to get started probly cost me 200-300 dollars and once you have those your set, just need to buy paint as you run out.

I don't take the gills out, what you can do is place thin pieces of cardboard between the gills so they dry out individually. Once dried you just paint them with gill red paint.

@beginnerstaxidermyguide8459
4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I caught that fish a few days prior to doing the video and mount work. I preserve my fish if I can’t get to them right away by wrapping them in a wet towel and putting them in the freezer. If done right you can keep a fish for months that way and do them when you have time.
