I'm Sarawakian and fluent in four different Malay dialects (Bahasa Malaysia, Sarawak, Sabah, and Brunei), also fluent in English, Iban, Bisaya and Bruneian Dusun, and I speak a little bit of Hokkien. Everything comes naturally except for English, which I learned in an English school in Brunei, and watching English movies has helped as well. I just noticed that we went a bit too far with languages🤣

You only talk to Chinese malaysian and 1 Malay girl, Dont think that covers malaysian people, if you ask Chinese of coz they speak most of the Chinese dialect. Why no Indian, more malays and maybe some other race. your interview is too focus to 1 race.

@@bluesharkmadness7101 I am a 90s kid. One thing I do noticed today is our English and Malay have gone down in quality. Many Chinese can't speak proper English and malay. How ever many malay can't speak good English. Indian is the only race that could speak both good malay and English. It used to be in a period when most malay , Chinese and Indian speak good English. How ever today we aren't as united as we used to be. During my schooling days even people from Chinese schools can speak good English and malay fluently. Even many of our current politicians don't speak good English. Tun Dr Mahathir, Tun ku Abdul Rahman can easily speak better English than Pmx.

But I'd guess that you intentionally learn the last three (and you learn English in school). This videos implies that due to the environment, most Malaysians can naturally speak more than 2 languages. It's like Chinese Indonesians who grew up speaking Indonesian, one of the Chinese dialects from their parents, and the local dialect/language (Sundanese, Javanese, etc.).

I think it is better to make part 2 but try to interview people in KL which in KL, there are Malay, Chinese, Indian and more races. Also, I think the video is quite unfair because most of people lives in Penang is Malaysian Chinese. But one thing that can be concluded is, it is true that in Malaysia, people dont really speak fully bahasa Malaysia anymore even though bahasa Malaysia is our national language. We mostly speak in English because English is common language that will benefits everyone. Most of the school use this language. But bahasa Malaysia is limited to some category so not everyone can actually speak in bahasa Malaysia. Bahasa rojak is like a savior for us, because this language is not fully in bahasa Malaysia. Bahasa rojak is mix of languages with Malay, no matter if it English+Malay or english+mandarin+malay, it is very convenient. It is little bit sad but we don't really mind that because by using English, it is more easy to communicate with local and tourist or in business.

Generally, Malaysians are at least bilingual - their mother tongue paired with English. Malay would know Malay and English, Chinese would know Chinese and English; while Indian would know Tamil and English. While I also believe that Malaysian Chinese and Indians know basic Malay as well, as it is a national language. Malay (Muslim) might also learn Arabic in their primary school. So, I would say it is a melting pot of languages here in Malaysia.
