Not gonna lie, I bought one of these and it was delivered today (perks of living within the 1 day range of sweetwater), and I'm really enjoying it after having played it for several hours since I put some new strings on it. The GreenyBuckers are significantly different to the Burstbuckers in the 1959 Epiphone, in that they're lower output and closer to an what an actual R9 Custom shop les paul would sound like. No buyers remorse as of now, just enjoying a good guitar. Fit and finish is on par with my Gibson SG 61 standard, and well above my 2014 SGJ, just to frame in terms of other stuff that I have on hand or played in the past. If the idea is to raise the floor of Gibson and raise the ceiling of Epiphone, then this is a good example of that crossover.

Actually I “unmodded” mine a fair bit to make it a better fit for me, so now it’s more like the Bolan or Ronson LP. Number one mod: get a decent wiring loom. Stripped the maple top to bare wood (nice slab of plain grain under the thin veneer), standardised the very decent Wilkinson pickups, and put a decent bone nut on it. Plays sweet, sounds classic, looks distinct.😊

I mean, they make them already for their Gibsons, its literally not an investment. Im not even saying that Chinese guitars are necesery bad, but come on. @cycomiles4225 I don't think I made myself clear. It has nothing to do with the Chinese people and the quality of the workmanship, what I am saying is if I found a guitar custom shop in China to build a guitar, you could imagine what kind of wicked guitar you could get for 2k directly going to the shop. Not 2k going to Epiphone and of that 2k split between the CEO of Epiphone and a kickback to Gibson and another slice going to the kirk, so on and so on. If you wanted that guitar out of China you could literally buy it for 500 because your not paying everyone else. That is what I am saying. When it comes to inflation, I don't think the prices have gone up like they have said simply because the stuff you really want or need has gone up and others haven't. 2.50 for a box of Kraft Dinner up from 1.50, but bananas haven't changed. TV, stereos Xbox, PS they haven't really changed. I think inflation has given people and excuse to be even more greedy.

The Greenybuckers are completely different in sound, and the neck and headstock feel much smoother than the cheaper 59 Epi. If you are good with electronics and good with tools then sure you can make your own, but why bother when you can get this with a warranty and all. Everything in the world is more expensive and you can take your stand all day long but in reality everything is getting more expensive and sure if everyone stopped buying it would put prices down, but that is never going to happen so to whine about prices is kind of pointless when we live in a capitalistic world. These people are just mad cuz they can’t afford one, & even though they are “pro Epiphone”, they’re still holding onto the stigma that where a guitar is made & what’s on the headstock is a reflection on the quality. It’s not. The only thing that separates the Epi Greeny from the Gibson, is it doesn’t have wings glued on the headstock, the top isn’t quite as nice & it doesn’t have nitrocellulose lacquer. That’s it. And my ‘59 Epi had to have the frets leveled, which is unacceptable for a $1000 guitar, or even a $700 guitar IMO

Like yeah, you can get a Gibson for around this price but you can also save your money and get a 1959 Epiphone in lemon burst for $749. You can then put Greenybuckers/Seymour Duncan Green Magics in it and sell the Burstbuckers. You’d come out less than $1000. Are you serious? Going on KZitem asking ppl not to buy a guitar because you don’t like it ? And the price in Europe is due to the conversion dollar euro .

Isn't the "Greeny" mod just wiring the pickup out of phase? I wired my 05' Epi to be out of phase with a push/pull pot many years ago, which was inspired by Jimmy Page. I don't understand the hype around this Greeny thing. Anyone want to buy my Greeny Page Epiphone Les Paul for $1500? Good grief, people.

Doesn't the new Kirk Hammett Greeny have the special out of phase selector position (or something like that) that makes it unique?

The Gibson open-book headstock will only be available on Custom Shop models going forward while standard models will continue to use the current Kalamazoo headstock. This is not a permanent headstock change like last year or whenever Epiphone last changed it.

I bought an ESP Edwards John Sykes model LP custom. It has the open book headstock and a chambered mahogany and neck with a ebony board. I've owned Gibson's and Epi's and honestly I prefer my Edwards, but to each his own, buy and play what you like, nobody else's opinion matters.

It’s funny that everyone kept asking for Epiphone to be a Gibson. Now that it has become a Gibson with the price tag to match, everyone is losing their minds and wondering what happened. Well, you got what you asked for, if you asked me. People just couldn’t let Epiphone be its own thing and now we’re paying for it. Inflation is also playing it’s part, but Gibson is just taking advantage in a way that they know people will fall for. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the old Epiphone headstock. I loved the clipped wing/tombstone headstock, it was Epiphone’s thing. But like I said, people wanted Epiphone to be a Gibson and now we are paying for it. So, thanks to those people for your contribution to these insane prices.

i do not understand wanting someone else's guitar down to the knobs. Why? buy a decent guitar and make it your own don't be a lame copycat. Reminds me of when i was a kid and people would buy fancy sneakers expecting to run faster

I think it's about the specs. It's still just made like any other Epiphone, that it would play well is kinda normal for most Epiphones.

I must confess, I never thought much of lemon burst Les Pauls until this new Greeny fuzz came about, and their marketing worked because all of a sudden I wanted one, albeit not 'the' Greeny they were pushing that still seems too expensive to me. Funny how things work, I found a used Epi 1959 (the limited edition lemon burst), so that oughta keep me happy. So I'll miss out on the "correct" Gibson shaped headstock, and the Greeny neck carve, and maybe the pickups and other paper work... I can live with that! :D

Very much agree with you. I’m a big Epi fan and own 6 myself and in fairness they have been producing some great quality guitars of late but if signature / high end Epi’s are going to be a thing then around the €1000 mark is a fair price in terms of value etc. I recently picked up the Noel Gallagher Signature Riviera and it cost €999. A fantastic guitar and fairly priced IMO 👌🏻

Raw materials have gone up in the past 3 years, so they have to cover the upcharge by raising prices, plus they have to pay an artist premium. Would you agree with that?

I was waiting on this since missing out on a Gibson Gary Moore signature Greeny model at a good price years ago. I was ready to buy it the day of release until I saw the price. It took years, but I'm over it now. I have two Les Pauls with the neck pickup flip and played them after deciding not to spend this much. Having said that, I often forget just what a great collection I have. Epi has gone too far with prices.

ill personally get it, when its being sold second handed which i strongly think it will. and probably at half the cost if not a flat 1k.. but honestly this is just mad its literally just their 59 model with mother of pearl inlays and different pickups(being greenies instead of burstbuckers)+headstock.. it doesnt even get rosewood its still Indian Laurel at that price tag. not that i dislike Indian laurel in terms of looks its really close to rosewood, especially after uve fed it some oil, but at that price i dont know id just expect it to have rosewood. Gibson is honestly going Crazy with the pricing on these signature guitars...
