Paris airport, the worst I’ve ever flown through. It is helpful that the airport personal all wear little blue uniforms so you know who to go to to ask for help. But be advised, if you open your mouth spewing English words, they will immediately ignore you, turning around and engage with anyone else who they think is not American. I learned this the hard way and almost missed my flight because of it. Best to start out with a friendly “Pardon Mademoiselle” as Frenchy as you can say it, to get their attention. I don’t speak French at all. That is the only phrase I remember from 7th grade French class. Thankfully, that phrase saved me from missing my return flight home! Literally! I was the last one on the plane and they closed the doors behind me. NEVER fly through the Paris airport with less than 4 hours between flights.

Your video is a bit nonsense, sorry. If you know the rules on most airports, specially in Europe (which are generic), you face absolutely no problems: 1) there are cameras everywhere so if someone steals you, they are caught. 2) you can put every other items first (belt, liquids, jacket, handbag) and the electronics at last. In Europe most if not all airports have trays to put things on. So your electronics are put by YOU but the laptop has to go on a separate one (the scanner has to be able to scan perfectly). If you do this, NO ONE will put a finger on your stuff. On most airports I flew in Europe (Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, England, Belgium, Netherlands, etc) the works ALWAYS say the laptop has to go in a different one and how you should put your things on the trays. And they never touched my things, except from other people who mixed everything nevertheless and they took their laptop and put on a different tray. That was it. Theft? Never heard of it. Confusion? Yes. People that are a little bit “slow of mind” (or don’t understand English or the native language) that despite the workers say how it’s done, they do otherwise. That slows things a bit down. Even my children do the right way after seeing one time…

Not really related to CDG but my husband and I narrowly avoided missing our connecting flight LHR to AMS due to not allowing enough connection time. We had arrived at LHR on the red eye with 2 hours to make our connection to AMS. We never would have made it if not for an airport employee scanning the very, very long security line looking for wayward jet-lagged passengers. She took one look at our boarding passes and said "you will never make it" and she pulled us out of line and took us straight to the front. To this day I have NO idea where she came from but I will remember her always lol.

My family traveled through CDG a few years back. We were actually held up by our carry on bags (plus one other issue at the end of this post). After going through security, we were told to step aside, two TSA agents asked to weigh our carry on luggage. They claimed that our bags were over the weight limit (by a little over 1 lb each). We'd never encountered anything like that with dozens of other flights. We were then asked a bunch of questions about our nation's president...once they understood that our thoughts were the same as theirs, our luggage problems magically went away. Then our problem was with LAX. Since my wife and I married and she took my last name, for every international flight back to LA, she has been pulled aside for a secondary check before our departure, at the boarding gate as we're boarding, and when we arrive at LAX. We even have TSA PreCheck and Global Entry. We read that her "new name" might be the same as someone on a global watchlist and that she should look into a getting a redress number.

Wallet, phone, passport, watch etc went into the first bin, carry on rucksack into the second. I had to have a manual scan/ patdown because of the wheelchair. On the other side I collected my rucksack. I then stopped off in duty free but when I went to pay for a purchase I then realised I had no cash, no card or phone for tap to pay or passport. I had completely forgotten about the first bin with all my valuables. Going through security as soon as possible is great advice! Story time: Earlier this year electricity in Katowice airport went down and security wasn't working for quite some time... some people didn't get to their flight on time (as gate was closed already - slightly before time stated at boarding passes, and even though plane still was there...as stuff was taking out their luggage) and now those people have problems to get a refund: airlines don't want to give it as passengers were "late" and airport don't want to do it because they gave those people priority security check and in theory made them "be on time" - still before time that gate actually should be closed o.O About things in pockets: I was terrified that one time (I think it was Catania airport) when I already put all my stuff on trays and they went to the scanner and I found 2 euro coin in my pocket. It was to late to throw it on any tray, it seemed silly to take extra tray for it, so ... I just went with it in my pocket - and nothing has happened 🤣 not all scanners are equally precise to catch all (even metal) things in our pockets ;)

Whatever advice you offer, there will always be exceptions and anomalies and there is no “one size fits all”. for example in LA a few years ago I was amazed when told I did not need to take any electronic apparatus out of my backpack, didn’t have to remove shoes, belt or anything else and we were through security before there was time to blink. In Sydney, Australia, a similar experience on one lane but my wife used a different lane and had to take everything out of her bags. It just depends on equipment and sometimes the attitude of the staff working there….and probably the way the passenger looks although that would probably be denied everywhere!

So far we have not traveled with laptops, but smartphones & maybe a tablet. But when two or more are traveling, one person quickly puts all of their stuff in the bin, and joins the line, goes through the body scanner; second person a little slower puts their stuff in another bin and holds both bins, (if necessary allowing other passengers behind to go first.) releasing them just before joining the body scanner line, keeping an eye on the bins. By then the first person will make it through and will be ready to collect both bins. Cheers.

Beyond that, I have no problems with CDG. Still, for the unexperienced, a 2-hour layover at CDG is too risky, the airport is big and going from terminal to terminal can sometimes take a solid 30-minute walk. People always forget to also account for deplaning, passport control, potentials delays, restroom pitstops, and boarding time on the connection flight.

Good points, I follow those myself, but...there are places where they put up a major fuss about the passport. I find it insane that people just throw their passport in a bin. In Panama they called the police on me, same story in Germany, had to see the chief of police because I refused to give up my passport. There insensitivity was shocking, especially considering Germany's history. Some of these people at airport are horrible.

Why do the French (and I use the term loosely) at CDG feel the need to send people who are just stepping off a highly secure incoming flight through an additional security check right upon arrival, as they make their way from terminal 2E (international) to 2F (Shengen)? (It doesn't happen in reverse, thankfully, and strangely!) The delays and the amount of frustration it causes is unbelievable; the logic of it is not just zero, but negative. But I suspect it means someone's job security. Oh, and their highly gifted way of forcing hundreds of incoming passengers from multiple planes that arrive simultaneously to pass through just 2 highly relaxed border agents... What's enraging is that passengers don't get any of the sizeable airport "service" fees that are part of their ticket's price refunded in such cases, or in any cases at all. The authorities are always right. And you voluntarily pay for the hassle, the nonsense and the humiliation.

De Gaulle Paris Airport is a terrible mess, I hate it. If there is ANY possibility, I'm using the ORLY airport which is fantastic - small and compact and almost in the city centre (comparing to De Gaulle).

Just came out from CDG so this is legit: when I went there, shoes were on, no need to take off our shoes. BUT, althou all my liquid were already put all in one plastic transparent bag, they still need all of my new bought perfumes outside of its original box and into a one plastic bag too, which most tourists never did that because it's not safe, the bottle could crack easily. It's took so much time for the officers to repack the perfumes, so it's clogging the line at the security counter. After the security, we all put the perfumes back into their original padded box because it will be safer...😅

What kind of control did you experience that there was danger of getting your laptop stolen?! I worked 1 year as a security in Frankfurt FFM, but we were trained to let people stand in lane. At least as a security, you have to make sure you know what belongs to whom. Guess you have to make tests on 20% of the laptops as order of the day - how are you going to do that if you do not know whose laptop it is? Guess you find something suspicious - "o no, that must have been from the previous passenger" - sorry, but not knowing what might belong to whom is a serious security issue. It is possible to do a complete security check within 10 seconds, 600 persons per hour. No need to let people get too close to other people's items.

They don’t have tray for laptops ? Plus you don’t have tsa precheck or equivalent for international travel , that does not require you to remove laptop from bag ?

Agree. These days after the bins have gone through security scanning machine, passengers are again channeled to another lane to have the handcarry checked again but MANUALLY , with all items to be taken out by them, one by one, even liquids and creams etc in a clear plastic bag are taken out one by one ! It's so different from pre covid days.

Yes, Paris CDG. ThereI missed aconnecting flight to Tunis once because of too little connectiontime. It was even Air France. They should know their own hub better. But they handled the problem very nicely. Got a flight early next morning and a hotel. Fun fact (or notso funny): Took one hour more to getto hotel because of a bomb alert.

@@PortableProfessional I flew from London Heathrow donkeys years ago with Air France, stopover at CDG, they made travellers to checkout the baggages and re-check them back in, so I had to go through the security again, eventually I missed my connection flight and had to wait for another 10 hours for next flight out, but they did however give me a 10€ voucher to buy food, no accommodation. And to top it all, the ground staff weren't helpful, they didn't speak English even if they knew. Horrible airport. I swore to myself I would never travel to and from CDG airport again.

Paris Airport - wow ssss - noted for my next international flight - I fly domestic every Friday morning (FIFO Work) - The security bins here in Perth Western Australia have a plastic flap at the bottom, so we put pocket items and laptop under this flap, then put your carryon , on top of this flap - We have the stand facing the wall security scanners , Grr i can guarantee i will get a pat down due to "heat zones" on my Body - then we have to go through the security advice speech - i am yeah yeah lets do this, but the poor security has to read out all the advice from the card , Plus i would bet a body swipe or bag swipe check - I think mostly because my flight is the first one for the morning the Security get their screening numbers up, as i have seen a digital clock counting down. Thank you for your posts

We flew from Venus to CDG to ATL. We had 2+ hours in-between each flight. We barley made each one. Strikes in Italy, way too many people in Paris and not enough help. Luckily we did make our flights but it wasn't a pleasant experience. Haha

The thing that drives me crazy is every airport has different expectations, even within the same country. Example: People often say that removing your shoes is standard, but the only airport that has ever enforced this for me is LAX.

Wrong......timeline 1:36....you say you can carry your passport through the body-scanner at every airport. Tried doing that last week at Indianapolis airport and the passport was rudely taken away from me by a TSA agent while I was entering the scanner with my arms above my head ( passport in hand).....which was handed over to yet ANOTHER TSA agent.....who finally gave it back to me as I exited the scanner. I was able to carry it with me at other airports. Not happy losing control of that critical document. To be clear...nothing else was in my pockets...nor was there any othe "offending piece" found, as I am a seasoned traveller and was careful not to do this......

@@PortableProfessional .... just reporting recent findings and yes....almost universally I was able to hold a paper document like passport in my hands. My comment addressed your presentation that it is just about universally allowed. We will find "not-so" on occasion. Aside....more....I was even admonished for not having my feet TOTALLY on the painted yellow footprints on the floor..... basically big deal, I had my feet properly apart and hands up over my head, with my feet maybe 1 inch off the yellow footprint template... shouldn't make much ( if any) of a difference. Some TSA people simply have a Napoleonic complex.
