Excellent tips Christine. So glad that you were able to retrieve your ATM card quickly! ATMs can be convenient and are pretty essential when traveling to countries with closed currencies such as Morocco, India and others. As you have previously advised, travelers should always be aware of their surroundings-this is particularly true around ATMs.

Great info when it comes to using ATM card in a foreign country. The hidden fees is a common legit scam practice by all banks across the globe for their benefits to add to their quarterly profit budget reports. I do want to tell that in India the Rs 2000 notes will no longer be a legal tender note after September, right now people in India are depositing the amount in their account but for those staying abroad we don't know if people can exchange the Rs 2000 notes for usd or other home currency. I always advise when travelling to any country is to keep small change as most big retails they don't have change to give back hence its always advisable to keep small change. Overall I like your latest content and a big thumbs up 👍.

Yes, small change is so important. Not all banks offer it via atm. I cannot remember the denominations but Why discontinue the 2000 rupee note. It’s so handy.

In Argentina it is totally forbiden to use cellphones or cameras inside bank facilities. I'm surprised in Mexico it isn't

I also forgot my bank card in a ATM in Turkey. Ran back and thankfully it was still there. So, you are not the only one!

Great tips as we get to more international travel. I usually take the local currency with me and use it as a back up with my travel credit card as my primary source. I’ve mainly travelled to Korea and Japan but are you concerned about credit card theft or are most places cash only?
@grrrltraveler

Ahhh I’m sorry that wasn’t clear. In cash based places, credit card for large purchases but smaller vendors would be cash. I thought Japan and Korea fell into that category though maybe they’ve gotten better in accepting foreign credit cards and maybe you’re just using cash for food. In either case. not all countries will accept ccs most of the time and that’s where you’re using the atms a lot.

I love these vlogs I never realized about the conversion fee and chose that once so I was ripped off. I use a credit card only also for everything when traveling abroad and glad I do when I returned from Greece someone in Europe was trying to purchase something on my chase credit card but chase caught it flagged it notified me immediately rejected it thankfully closed that card sent me a new card if that had been my bank card would have caused me a serious headache with changing checking account and bills rearranged and delayed been through it a headache.

Oh no. Glad chase sorted it quickly! How stressful! 🧡 Don’t worry. I didn’t know about that one for a while although I always had a sneaking suspicion about it and often chose the local conversion. 😁

I don't like ATMs. Sometime their outside or their inside people can still see you put your pin number in. One they can steal your number and put you and your life through hell! Or two they can kid nape you rape/murder you and still steal your money. That's why If I have to withdraw I go inside the bank and speck to the teller.

💯 agreed. It’s not always convenient to go to a bank ATM but the pros far outweigh the cons. 👍

I try to cash and carry as much as I can. This Winter I'm going back to Northern Europe. I feel iffy about ATMs abroad. This Winter, I'll have to have Euros, Swedish and Norwegian Kroners, and Yen for Japan. I'm get a Suica to use the subway metro in Japan.

Great tips, Christine! Definitely a big one that you mentioned is when the ATM's try to get you do the conversion rate for you that rips you off. So happy you were able to get your card back after forgetting it, too! I had a friend on my last trip to Thailand forget his and he didn't get it back. I also use many of the methods you do as far as hiding your money. One thing I'm happy that I have is a Charles Schwab account so I never have to worry about ANY ATM charges since they reimburse me for all charges at the end of each month. I love that with them as then I never have to worry about how many times I use the ATM on a trip, it's all reimbursed back to me! I'm sure this video will be a big help to new travelers. ❤
