Rebuilding my C10. It has a 350 from 1984. Getting hard to justify $1000ish for cleaning, inspection, bore, hone, etc when you can buy a brand new modern block for $2000.

That's what I be sayin. Probably gonna exceed well over 1000 for all the machine work they want to do, especially when you include resizing rods and align honing the mains.

Im glad you made this video on this topic because most people never talk about it yet it is very important! Im like you when it comes to shipping my engine out. In my case i dont really have a choice. Im pretty sure im gonna have to drive mine out of state. Just dont have the confidence in any shops that are "close" to myself when it comes to a mod motor. I wish you the best of luck with the mls gaskets and fine tuning everything to make this one last! Maybe you can get some footage of the actual process at the machine shop?? Just a thought!!!! Til next time brother...mod bless you!

Great tips. You can’t just say “hey I need these springs put in” and then leave. Need specs and if needa be lapped, etc. otherwise they’ll do what ever and charge you what ever...

Don’t know if you are watching or logging it on the Holley , but you can utilize a pressure sensor on coolant side to watch when it try’s to lift the head.. I’m sure you already know this but just throwing it out there. Just get a baseline of the pressure on a safe pass then make a table in the Holley to pull timing or add fuel or whatever u want do to help keep head down and that way you got a way to monitor it.. good luck on the build can’t wait see it roll 7s

Do you use the 3v gt500 oil pump or just a regular mustang GT 2v oil pump? Or the mmr version with the billet gears? Gonna put my cams in soon and wanted to do a oil pump at the same time I do everything.

Been measuring pistons for 20 years. Not come accross one yet that was needing it's own hole. I'm talking new of course. They are always right on size these days. Maybe back in the day manufacturing was all over the place but not what I have been subject to. By the way, I resize a few dozen blocks a year at minimum as reference to how many pistons I measure. At one time it was even more.

@@whiplashmachine yes this was back in the late 60,s to late 70,s it does seem the process has gotten more advanced with tighter tolerance and less error . Thanks for responding I have a 6.0 block that needs done , have the pistons but the connect rods are in use at the moment .

@@gverhoeff39 I notice it in the castings when I machine them. Like when I set up a block to bore/deck, my machine measures the decks to see if they are square to eachother and parallel with the main housing. The earlier the block, the more it is out. Like the 69 350 I machined last week, it was 0.020" tapered front to back and the decks were out of square by 0.015". Common for these older 350's although not all are that bad. Take pretty much any 350 after 1978 and they will be pretty much right on everytime. They setup much easier and I dont have to juggle the casting around to get it right.

Quick question on machine work with a WAP block. Do you always line bore the mains and deck the block? I opened up my engine to add forged internals. Main bearings look like new with 128k miles and the deck is flat with under .001 taper. Also will the extra torque of ARP main studs require line boring? Thanks!

Good info. I’m nervous about having to send ANYTHING out for repair. You lose control of it. I remember last vid you mentioned that the wap block may not have to be align honed if using arp studs. I’ve read different but you’ve rewritten a lot of previously held beliefs in regards to the wap block. I will explore that. I have also heard about retorquing after 1st heat cycle. Gonna be a huge pain but it makes sense
