When new play materials are brought into the preschool classroom, how important is it to formally "introduce" the toys or materials to children? Does having a whole group discussion about a toy influence the quality of children's play with the toy? If so, what is most critical to include in a discussion about a toy?
For three years, CECE researchers explored these questions as an addendum to the TIMPANI Toy Study. This video describes findings from a study that explored the impact of a formal toy introduction when a toy was first brought into the classroom, as well as the impact of a group discussion about a toy after it had been in the classroom for a week.
