Why is everyone acting like this is new information? This has been common knowledge for god knows how long. Yet again, the console community manages to confuse and misinform enough people to the point that a video needs to be posted to set everyone straight. Higher frame rate = better Higher refresh rate = better Higher resolution = better PS4 & Xbox One are both built with underpowered hardware, and both systems struggle with 1080p, which is a decade old technology that real "next-gen" systems should handle as easily as humans handle breathing.

I personally think it's best that we didn't move to 4k games. I mean, 4k tv's cost more than the console, and it will turn into a 1000$ fee. And who can afford that if they can't buy expensive hardware (consoles are for people who want to play ganes at a cheaper price). NTM, the consoles would probably cost over 800$ since even 800$ pc's struggle with 4k. Its the best for the consumer right now

After watching the video it seems like it comes down to this. People are either greedy when they see just numbers (30vs60) or they want to look the best and say they have the "newest and best" you can get at the time, even though what they have at the time works just as fine and gets the job done all the same as the "new" stuff. But stuff like this DOES NOT make a game. It's such a small part of the big picture. Heck some of the most loved games of all time were Doom, Half life 1-2, old final fantasy games and the like just to name a few. You can play a game at 30 FPS just fine and love every minute of it just the same as if it was 60 FPS. So why don't we just stop with the numbers war and actually look at the games themselves and not what you play it on.

Hello Cam. I have a 3D LG display, it says on Google that it has a 120Hz refresh rate. My question is, would I experience any difference while playing PS4 games (30 fps) vs playing with a high ended laptop (60-90 fps) plugged to my LED tv via HDMI? Sometimes I feel the image flickers while playing FIFA 17 on my PS4 and my LG tv. Unfortunately, I haven't bought the laptop to try by myself and I will sell my PS4 tomorrow xD

the funny thing is, with multi-image buffering, using the example of triple-buffering(which seems to be the most common) you are getting the image related to your last action say two images later than you usually would. This theoretically has the same effect on input delay times as having a third of the frame-rate you have but usually ensures a smoother image as you are unlikely to see an image that is still being processed.

The TV I have is a Sony HX909 It was a $3,000 TV. But PS4 does 60frps. So if I mark 24hz, that makes it 24fps. So do I want this selected? Even if it isn't a true 240hz, it does way more than 60hz even. Which is 60fps.

Question: If our eyes do not work in a FPS manner.. then why do we sometimes see spinning wheels of cars on the freeway like they are not moving.. or spinning backwards??. I´ve always thought that it was because for each "frame" our eye would capture, the wheel would make a full rotation, or a little less, producing the effect..

Love how people call current gen consoles underpowered. I have news for you... they're $400. That's it. You spend $400 (and I'm INCLUDING a year of PS+/XBLive in that price) and you have everything you need to run and enjoy some games. Good luck finding a cpu, gpu, power supply, memory, storage (better be at least $500GB), cooling system, case, keyboard, mouse, and a windows license for less than $400. Go ahead, try. Might as well throw an HDMI cable and a simple headset in there as well, since the consoles come with those, too. People literally want the impossible. If the consoles were more expensive people wouldn't buy them. So yeah, they have the performance-to-cost ratio that works.

+MrCreeper "Runs games at 30fps" isn't the criteria, though. It needs to have similar or better specs than a PS4 and needs to be fully ready to game at or under $400. So you can either show me how to do that or we don't have much to talk about.
@IcoKirov

+Daniel King yep, building a $400 PC that runs games similar to consoles is easy. just search for $400 gaming PC on youtube. half of the videos will "qualify" for your requirements. just a couple of notes. cooling system is not necessary, the one that cames with the parts is enough. keyboard and mouse can be aquired for 5-10 bucks. steamOS is free. you can say win 10 is free. Linux is also free, and yes, a lot of games are abailable on linux nowadays. and i might be wrong, but if i remember correctly I had a cable with my gpu. but you can ignore that as i could be wrong. but they are not that expencive as well. the simple headset too. i had owned a $6 headset that was pretty decent. and with the money you will save in the long run for playing a lot more f2p games, getting games with ridiculous discounts and not paying additional for memberships. you can easily upgrade your PC on a later date. something you can't do with the console.

I don't even know why this is up for debate. If you can't see the difference between 30 and 60fps you've got problems or you're in denial. However, nobody ever talks about the difference between 85fps and 120fps because hardly anyone has a monitor that can do refresh rates between 60Hz and 120Hz. The truth is that 120Hz is a giant waste of GPU power as anything over 85fps is indistinguishable. 85Hz is noticeably better than 60Hz for certain, but this whole 120Hz thing is outa control. It's too bad that no modern monitor can do 85Hz because it would be the best of both worlds with having the maximum frames you can actually see and use much less GPU power being 35 frames less than 120 frames.

I don't think you should call this a science show. FPS and hz have nothing to do with where it comes from. Hertz is a general unit for cycles per second while frames per second can only describe things that have something to do with frames over a time period. So both, the graphics card and the monitor have fps and 1 fps simply is 1 hz. And btw: 120/144 hz monitors aren't necessarly for 3D, they just have the hz. You could also do 3D with a 60hz monitor, but because of the most common 3d technique you end up having 2 30fps videos, which are asynchronously, so the brain has much more to process and the picture looks even worse or give you a headache.

People need to really think about how far consoles have come and quit bitching. I remember playing Silent Hill 1 on the ps1 and thinking it looked awesome. They are literally able to render 125 MILLION more pixels per second. How is that not progress?! Exactly. It's great progress. If you want 1440p 60fps then go spend $1,500 on a gaming PC and quit your bitching. 1080p and 30fps or 60fps on a $350 PC is insane. No new $350 PC with peripherals will EVER be able to run modern games at high settings 1080p, let alone 60fps.

+MercilessHobo thats not what he means i think(he's just being a dick about it) the thing pc gamers get mad about consoles for the most, is when i game dev will make a game that could look beautiful and run amazingly, but the"dumb it down" for console consumers, thus the pc players that spent a lot of money on their system cant benefit from it because the devs cater to the console players to sell more copies, which is where consoles hold back progress due to devs not innovating to sell more copies. and btw this talk of pc gamers being rich is very false. pc gamers are just more passionate about gaming and are willing to give up nice clothes, nice cars, fancy foods, etc, to be able to afford a much nicer pc. i assure you its not because "pc players are rich"

For me it doesn't make sense to have 60fps if the game have animations that don't take advantage from that. They just look constantly fast forwarded... Unless it's a competitive online game of course. Like that short clip from assassin's creed. It just look unnatural at 60fps. A lot smooth, but unnatural.

Playing a game with over 100 fps on a 60hz screen vs 60 fps on a 60hz screen has a difference as well, less input lag, smoother mouse movement etc, even though you'll see no visual difference, you can feel it. Now if you have 30 fps that just doesn't feel good to me, it's playable but not too much fun. I have never tried the 120hz screens yet but I can only imagine how good it would look, my fps is mostly around 100 so idk If I should upgrade to a 120hz screen, would it matter?

I've never really cared about 60fps until I upgraded my (PC) hardware and started to be able to play at 60fps. Once you experience it, you don't want to get back. For me "FPS=Monitor Refresh Rate" is the goal. Having less FPS is not unplayable at all, I've finished entire games on 30/40fps and I didn't complain. But now that I have a better rig and I'm getting used to 60fps I definitely prefer dropping some quality settings and play at a little less quality but with stable 60fps. What I don't really understand though is that some games deal better with let's say 30fps than others. In GTA V I really don't like 30fps and it needs to be 60, but Assassin's Creed BF (the one in the video) is very very good at 30fps. I don't get how this can be different per game. Maybe it's just my weird perception :)
@burtaverde5305
9 жыл бұрын
Eneko Prins you are actually right. It is not the fps that matter, but the rate at which they are rendered. Changes in frames can cause great differences in the (small) time it takes to render a frame, so if that rate fluctuates all over the place, it will look bad, but stable and less frames is actually much better than high unstable. That is why movies are at 24fps, and you don't have a problem with it.
@Stabalce

Eneko Prins I played Black Flag at around 25-30fps and all while playing it I thought it was running at much higher fps. Then I got fraps to show me the actual frame rate. I was really surprised. So we either both have weird perception, or there's something odd about Black Flag.

I don't think it's important on console to be at 60FPS because the controller itself is a huge limitation in First person shooters unlike Keyboard and mouse. Due to the lack of precision and acceleration on analog sticks, console gamers spend 80% more time panning than aiming. You can have 1000 frames per seconds and it would no use if the input lag is major. If you are curious, just youtube a FPS gamer on the PC and see how he snap around the screen then aims more than panning.

There's a number of limitations there, probably to most restrictive is actually the bandwidth of an HDMI cable. There's a new spec coming out that's informally called HDMI 2, which will transmit 4k video at 60 frames per second--if we still use the same color compression we currently use. Of course, putting 4k video at 120 Hz with no color compromises would be something like 4*4*2 = 32x the bandwidth of current 1080p signals, somewhere around 500 Gbits/second. The only connection technology we have that can handle that (as a single cable) is fiber optic cable.

It would be better if we get 4k/60p and a new color-standard?! than 120Hz. I believe we are lucky because we can witness the transition between the technologies and appreciate the big thing. After 4k maybe 8k comes in but, is there an end point? (I'm sure this point would be, Reality > Point, no matter what).

60fps is mandatory for games like Counterstrike, Call of Duty and Battlefield. Especially at a competitive level. Most HDTV's are by standard 60hz and you see alot of 120hz TV's now too. The PS4 and Xbox One are next generation gaming systems, they should be at a 1920x1080 resolution minimum and 60fps especially for the LAUNCH titles, in my personal OPINION the Xbox One and PS4 are both underpowered, the Xbox's GPU is very disappointing especially. Its funny how both consoles are getting "4K" support when the reality is that 1080p is already a stretch.

One other major difference with regards to frame rate that I find is targeting accuracy over distance, where essentially the further away something is from you the lower the frame rate, the less accurately you can hit that target while in motion simply because the amount of movement between frames is increased over distance. For instance, at 30 fps, if you turn to shoot a target, you may have to slow down or stop entirely as you could end up skipping either side of the distant target, increase it to 60, 120 or 144 fps and the chances are you are going to be able to keep on the move or only slow down slightly to hit the target. The best way to think of it is the seconds arm on a clock, close to the centre of the clock the arms move quite smooth, but the further down the arm you go the less smooth it moves as it has to travel a greater distance in the same time. If that second arm moved at .5 or .25 second increments, the movement at the end of the arm would be noticeably smother, and even more so near the centre of the clock. This is one of the things many console only gamers can't grasp when they are told that PC gamers will reduce GFX and resolution to get better frame rates in games like FPS, but this is the reason why, higher FPS means greater accuracy especially the further you are away from your target and it doesn't matter how pretty the pictures are if you can't accurately hit your target. One other thing tho easier to explain is eye strain, the difference between looking at something like 30fps in games for long periods of time is more uncomfortable than it is at 60fps plus. In movies and TV it's not as noticeable as the image is blurred and so puts less strain on the eyes, not to mention it requires less focus than games do. I notice it regularly when I use my 60HZ monitor with my 144HZ ones. 60fps to 30fps is exactly the same and 120fps to 30fps is even more so for myself at least. For me this is the reason why I went for a 144hz monitors as I can then not only take advantage of turning off V-sync, I can have a more comfortable experience overall. On a side note, a few people in work just working on spread sheets and word found they reduced their eyestrain by dropping down a res on the monitors so they could increase the refresh rate to 75hz, so even out of gaming those higher refresh rates can be more comfortable.

Bratzbeerkuchen Agreed, a friend of mine says the human eye can't detect anything above 60fps...but I just bought a 144hz monitor, went into my AMD control panel and switched form 60hz to 144hz and noticed the mouse on the screen was clearer straight away so he's bullshitting. He says it's complete placebo after that, but I can tell when Borderlands 2 drops from 144fps to 65fps during large firefights, but it doesn't bother me. Although the "human eye can't detect above 24fps" brigade make me laugh...a lot.

Bratzbeerkuchen It's a new build of mine R9 290X and core i7 top end devils canyon model, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD and 3TB HDD. Pretty cool stuff, was expensive but worth it :D The monitor was the cherry on top.

+TheBlisterer youre friend is right and wrong in the same time... human eye can detect a lot more then 144fps the thing is human eye dont see frames is more complicated to explain and about 60fps or 144fps.. from a high number of frames per second (dont remember exactly the number) you may feel dizzy and things and one more thing, our brain records everything in very high detail but the problem is... us, we dont know how to access that data.. sorry for bad english and not too detailed infos (google can explain u more then me)

Also having higher resolution is not about hiding individual pixels. It's about having more pixels so none of the intricate artwork is lost. There is a massive difference and running at lower resolutions makes the game world appear like it's hid behind a glass window that is dirty. The more pixels the more live like and real the image looks, rather than a TV screen. It also reduces all those shimmering jagged edges and don't tell me you don't notice them as I see them on a 15 inch 720p screen

the other day on a store i saw a really big display (60+ inches) showing a movie, but it don't "moves" like a movie, it was more like a tv show , well i wonder, the movie was moving on that tv so smoothly do a high hz thing on the tv, bd player both or what??

Sigh console gamers will never get it. Play Battlefield 4 at 30fps and then at 60fps on a PC. 60FPS looks a hell of a lot smoother. You guys have just never seen 60FPS in action.

Why are people saying “60>30?” Why would less FPS be better?
@YouTubeViewerHandle

Frame rate really doesn't matter that much, when you consider how much better resolution/graphics could be, when we keep games locked at 30FPS. Petty things such as FPS is what is holding us back from truly amazing graphics.

UUUMMMM, pushing for better frames, will demand the need for better hardware, better hardware means better graphics. Plus i guess you have now seen that people have been smart enough *couch couch* to give you a choice between graphics and frame rate on consoles, just like PC. Do you feel stupid now?

How can any real gamer complain about framerate? If you are old enough to have played Atari, Nintendo, Pong, Pac man, etc....framerate is not even an issue to you! This 60fps nonsense is only an issue to you young detached from history and reality gamers

MYT MIC Nearly all games from your generation ran in 60 anyway. plus framerates make that much more of a difference now that they're 3d. You're out of touch is all

Exactly my point. I remember Ps1 games at 25 fps. I remember NES games were frames meant shit. As long as the game is at stable fps (30 or 60 fps doesn't matter as long as it is locked there), everythings fine.

60 FPS is cool but not essential. Do I notice the change? Yes. Do I like it? Yep. But will I go so far as to type bitchy comments on KZitem about it? No. As an xbox one owner, I like it when games are 60 FPS but I don't give a shit if they aren't. I didn't buy a console for the framerate and I don't care either way.

Mooreo Back when I was a kid and I didnt even know what fps means, I always adjusted the graphics settings so that I got a smooth and fluid experience, which resulted in about 60 fps. But since I dont have a console, I dont have that problem. But it is honestly one of the reasons I avoid consoles.

Mooreo quality of ingredients and qualification of chef are both objective, and only peasants in denial of the truth tries to turn it into a subjective opinion even though PC superiority is supported by objective facts, dollar figures and performance stats. Yet peasants insists that they cant "feel" the superior fps, and they "prefer" paying to be ass raped by console makers in face of all the facts. If thats not denial i dont know what is.

It's the delay time from pushing a button on a controller to having that action appear on screen. It may seem instant but it's not, and is quite noticeable in competitive gaming. Having a higher frame rate helps you react better in compensation to control latency. That's why fps is so important in shooter games and MOBAs like League of Legends.
