Today's question:
I am not sure if she wants her name out there, so I she'll remain anonymous until she tells me it's OK. Here's the question:
Hey, Vic!
I wasn’t sure if I should message you on this profile or your public account.
I just wanted to wish you good health and that everything stays in the clear. I had a cancer scare myself last year and will have to keep an eye on that moving forward. So, I can sympathize with however you were feeling when you had your scare.
I’ll be moving to Japan in April or May, HOPEFULLY. Starting the whole COE process now for a spousal visa so we’ll seeeeeeeee.
Since you’ve lived in Japan for so long, I was wondering;
- How you felt about gaijin or tourists there.
- Throughout the years have you noticed any societal changes because of them? Not necessarily media/entertainment related things, more so behavioral and environmental, etc.
- What do you think Japan will do when it comes to allowing more gaijin in? It seems like they want more gaijin in (by creating more visas) but don’t at the same time since they’re hard to obtain.
- With the low birth rates and aging/dying population, what do you think Japan will look like in the near future re: gaijin in general?
One of the things I love most about Japan is how “Japanese” it is. I love how homogenized it is and how well they preserve their country’s culture. I also appreciate how well behaved Japanese society is in general: staying clean, quiet, respectful, etc. I think that’s rare in the world. With that, gaijin in Japan really annoy me lol. Or maybe I should say tourist? Idk, either way, the people who travel or live there and act a fool because they don’t assimilate or learn the culture.
Now, thanks to the internet Japan has become super popular. Influencers in Japan are all that litter my feed now. It’s gross lol. And damn, I really sound like a boomer right now. I haven’t even hit 30, lol. Last year, I went back to Japan for a couple months when the border re-opened and it was wonderful. Especially compared to pre-corona since there were hardly any tourists. I wish it could stay like that lol. I’m sure I probably sound like a jackass or hypocritical when I say I don’t like (bad) gaijin. But, coming from America, Japan is so nice and I want it to stay that way, lol.
So anyhoooooo - If you want to, or remember, perhaps you can talk about gaijin/tourists in Japan, your thoughts about how Japan has changed because of them, and your predictions for how it may change in the future regarding all things gaijins there.
I appreciate you for taking the time to read this junk, I know you have a busy life. So, thanks againnnn.
Stay healthy and take care!
