In this psychoeducation video, Dr. Kate Truitt explains that Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD) can wreak havoc on our emotional world and impair our ability to function, but once it’s identified, RSD can become a manageable diagnosis.
She states that if we have been diagnosed with ADHD, social phobia, panic disorder, or borderline personality disorder, there are three questions that we should ask ourselves.
First, do we avoid situations because we are fearful that we will be rejected by someone there?
Second, if someone calls us out of the blue, do we automatically assume it’s because we’ve done something wrong?
Third, do we anticipate rejection when moving into a new relationship with a friend, colleague, or loved one?
If we answered yes to any or all of these questions, Dr. Kate suggests that we might be struggling with RSD.
RSD is a neurological experience where someone feels the pain of rejection at a much deeper level than most, and it can often result in us feeling “crazy.” Dr. Kate explains that we like to give ourselves negative labels when we don’t understand why something is happening to us; therefore, by understanding what is happening in our brains, we can start to address the issue with love and kindness.
