Another banger, so glad I found your channel while procrastinating when I should be writing.

I lm definitely at the point where ive watched too many videos compared to how much ive practiced. The videos can almost be an easy way out in that they make me feel like im being productive even though im not writing. What ive been doing now thats been working well is to watch a couple of videos to get me thinking about writing and motivated, then actually write. But i cut myself of at like twenty mins of youtube which is possibly still too much. Thanks for making these. You have a nice perspective and approach.

Practice is good, even necessary, but much can be learned, on the job as it were, by reading and copying author's work--which might be similarly regarded as practice. One thing I've noticed of authors I admire is their use of their unconscious or subconscious mind, intuition and dreams. It's at least another possible tool in an author's quiver and one that is not often talked about outside of automatic writing. Do you have any views on this unconscious or subconscious intuitive process? Thank you for this.

Writing intersects with the unconscious mind in interesting ways. Its something I'd love to do a video on but I've not figured out how to approach the subject.

Good advice, Mr. Osis, but you failed to mention the all-important _Monkey See, Monkey Do_ principle. Read. Read, then read some more. Read decent literature, and read it critically to see how it's done, then try to do as you've see it done. That was five "reads," so you know I must be serious. Avoid most self-published works unless you can somehow ascertain that they're done well and were professionally edited; otherwise, stick with books published by mainstream publishers. Keep at least on e-book on your phone to read wherever you are, whenever you can. Get off KZitem (exception granted for this channel, of course) and other social media. Eschew TV and streaming services, and spend your free time reading & writing. Wasn't it Dean Koontz who advised us to read voraciously and... (something)? Maybe Duncan can help with that quote. I'm not even certain whom to cite.

I've heard a quote that goes something like "An author will turn over a whole library to write a single book." Not sure who to attribute it to. I think reading a lot of work from a lot of different authors allows you to develop your own style from the parts that resonate with you.
