I carry a low-bounce LW, but only use it for bunker shots where conditions are extremely firm, or even compacted to the point of feeling like hardpan.

Good plan, the low bounce will limit forgiveness, particularly in the sand unless it's firm, but is a great option on firm courses, particularly links or a lot of courses in the summer

@@GolfShopOnline My old home course in New York City, built on a landfill without enough topsoil dumped on top of the garbage, consisted of fairways, and everything else hardpan. 🤣 SW as much bounce as possible, LW as little.

The up and over club that i have to have in my bag, the over trees, bunkers and out of those really deep bunkers that my ball gets drawn to. like all clubs you have to have confidence in the swing.

For years used a 60 for must chip shots, but switched to 54/58 a few years ago, but struggled with using 54 for short chips so I settled on 58 and TBH I wasn't as consistent. SO this year I went back to a 56/60 and mostly I chip with 56 and my proximity to the hole is much better. I have reserved 60 for get out jail moments when less loft just won't work, but I use at least 10* of bounce now on my 60.

That's great, testing to find what works for you is definitely your best option, there's no set formula so glad you've found a good mix. That's exactly the benefit of the additional LW, it doesn't have to be used all the time but it's that get out of jail free card when you really need it!

48, 54, 58 and 62. And I keep a Cleveland chipper in reserve, just in case. Also, even though my driver clubhead speed is over 100, I carry a 3 and 7 wood, gaps well for me. Thinking about pulling the 5 iron for a hybrid. Honestly, those clubs are for hitting reachable 5s

Sounds like a great setup, glad you've managed to find something that works for you! Having the extra options is always a bonus too!

58 degree for me! Easier to hit than a 60 degree and spins/lofts more than a 56 degree

I gave up my 60 degree and now just use my 56 degree and open up the face. I find I am more consistent with the 56 degree. The 60 degree had very little bounce so I had to be super accurate with strike otherwise it was usually a fat shot just when I didn't want it.

Confidence is key, if you're happy playing the shots with a lower lofted wedge, it'll only open up more space in your bag for other options

Carry a lob wedge in summer but not in winter. Rather have an extra hybrid in winter. I have 16 clubs but depending on weather pick & choose which goes in the bag. Eg. If windy the 18 deg hybrid replaces the 5 wood. 5 hybrid replaces 5 iron in winter.

This sounds like a good move, if you can afford the options, they can come in very handy for different courses/conditions. I like the change in the winter, when the courses get softer, lob wedges become less forgiving on strike etc and if the ground is softer anyway, you don't always need the added loft benefit to stop the ball

@@GolfShopOnlineI only ever buy used clubs. Mizuno ST-Z fairways less than £100 each. Titleist TSi2 Hybrids averaged £80 each😎

I got one, but there is a saying I heard recently a lob wedge should be behind glass- only break for an emergency 🙂

I've got a 58... I use it once every 3 rounds.. I would probably use it more if I was on a different course but there isn't much vertical obstruction, no deep bunkers which my 54 isn't just fine out form. I do think it is course specific, if newbies think they will get the ball zipping back they're misguided.

Absolutely there are definitely courses it will be more important than others, much like a long iron vs hybrid, you could argue lob wedge v chipper

A friend of mine hosel-rocketed a 60 degree into the side of my head, so I don’t have a good relationship with the club. Don’t see it ever making an appearance in the bag.

My feeling is a lob wedge is not a forgiving club. You need to know how and when to hit. If you practic, for most of us mortals it’s better to use a lower lofted club
@GolfShopOnline

Whichever club inspires the most confidence, in those high lofted situations, you don't have to manipulate the club as much which some people like, others are happy adding the loft themselves. Either way, practicing and finding what you're most comfortable with is the important thing
