Also, if you have the unlock kit booklet, it will tell you where the linkage and clearance is in the door so you can use a z-tool/inverted z-tool and similar hooks so that you don't have to risk breakage like this... How else do you think he’s supposed to get into the car SHE locked herself out of? You think he’s supposed to magically teleport into the bloody front seat and open it? Accept the circumstances you’ve put yourself in. He had no other choice. You want access to your car? Then the scrapes are a result of your incompetence. I know a lot of folks are pointing out the paint scratches, but if you’re open to suggestions, it might behoove you to carry a roll of painters tape, tape over the areas you’ll make contract with the long bar, it’ll hurt the tape, and it’s easy to remove when you’re done. Hope it helps.

That car has a smart “proximity “ key based on the button on the door handle.. even if the car battery was near dead, it won’t lock if the fob is in it. IF the fob and key inside the fob were separate, just open the door with the key

Pro tip. Have a spare physical key made. One that may or may not start the car, but will definitely turn the locks. Try to keep it with you. It's becoming commonplace on newer cars that the keyhole is located under a piece of trim. I have no idea why they decided to cover it up. But usually, it's made to be popped off with the end of the key, revealing the key hole underneath. My car is a '97 so it was easy to get a $3 flat key that I can keep tucked in my wallet that turns the locks, but doesn't start the car. While I can definitely forget my wallet _and_ my key in my car, it's far less likely that I will.
