Cost? $55($57 with card), and don't go for the driver's side since there is always a risk of bending the frame, but a bigger one of blowing out the window. (I worked towing for a while, and this was our standard procedure.) Also, if you have the unlock kit booklet, it will tell you where the linkage and clearance is in the door so you can use a z-tool/inverted z-tool and similar hooks so that you don't have to risk breakage like this... Subject to model & year. It makes me cringe to see that this guy--a full-time locksmith--scratched the door when a vegetable chopping mat from walmart is like $1 and can provide adequate protection against this without sacrifice of time or cost.

That car has a smart “proximity “ key based on the button on the door handle.. even if the car battery was near dead, it won’t lock if the fob is in it. IF the fob and key inside the fob were separate, just open the door with the key

if it were vinyl wrapped it should get damaged in that way but then again its black so even black nail polish would fix that or just get a tiny piece of black wrap from a local wrapping place theyll give scrap pieces away for free@@ridinlow01

How else do you think he’s supposed to get into the car SHE locked herself out of? You think he’s supposed to magically teleport into the bloody front seat and open it? Accept the circumstances you’ve put yourself in. He had no other choice. You want access to your car? Then the scrapes are a result of your incompetence. Dude I know your long reach tool is insulated to prevent scratching but if you have to force it that first little bit it will scratch while you have the tool inserted. They sell a a plastic sleeve to slide in with a whole in it for your tool to fit through so you don’t have to have any worries. @spicytuna62

Pro tip. Have a spare physical key made. One that may or may not start the car, but will definitely turn the locks. Try to keep it with you. It's becoming commonplace on newer cars that the keyhole is located under a piece of trim. I have no idea why they decided to cover it up. But usually, it's made to be popped off with the end of the key, revealing the key hole underneath. My car is a '97 so it was easy to get a $3 flat key that I can keep tucked in my wallet that turns the locks, but doesn't start the car. While I can definitely forget my wallet _and_ my key in my car, it's far less likely that I will.

I open up cars for a living too, we use the exact same tools however i recommend thin strips of plastic (Like cut up almond milk jugs thick but plyable) It makes the tool slide like butter and prevents scratching of the tool on tight doors. Just a lil recommendation.

This is why I use an old plastic bottle with the top and bottom cut off. Flattened they slide in the gap then you can put your rod through without the risk of messing up the trims or splitting the door seals.
