What a GORGEOUS GORGEOUS dog. I once owned a Doberman Pinscher whose name was Schafer. I loved that dog and also my German Shepherd. Schafer and Rommel (my GS) were very close. One day in 1987, I took my GS to the vet as he could not walk. I was told it was terminal as his spine had gone. I broke down and wept like a child and Rom looked into my eyes and put his head on my knee. It was then that I went to pieces. All I had now was my beautiful Schafer. Six months after Rommie died, I had to take Schafer to the vet as she wasn't feeling well. After tests; I was told Schafer had Leukemia. I told the Vet I did not care how much it would cost and begged him to save her. Each time I visited Schafer which was every day she wold snuggle up to me and place her head across my knee. When I was told she was gone; again I wept like a baby. That happened 34 years ago. I have never been able to own another dog since then. I cannot face losing them. Periodically I dream of both dogs running up to me, and I hug them; only to wake up and feel a hopeless sense of loss. I hope Phoebe lives a long and happy life. Thanks for sharing your film of her. PS: The name Schafer means PROTECTOR.

That's the thing with pets you got to accept when you get them that you're going to eventually be outliving them. As long as they had at least 12 years or so of good health then its all good. I know you can't stand losing them but putting them through a bunch of ultimately pointless procedures isn't the answer either.

Angus McMillan- I hope you see this response. I realize it seems arrogant for anyone to think they can ease your loneliness over the loss of your two friends. And I certainly don't know how you feel. It's different for each of us that have endured similar experiences. It is evident from your post that you loved your dogs very deeply. From that, I believe all that love could do was done. You gave Schafer and Rom the best lives they could possibly have. No one else could've done that exactly as perfectly as you did. No one. They both deserved every tear that you shed for them. Every painful sob was a tribute to the bond the three of you built together. They were/are meaningful messages from your soul outward to the universe. Your dogs gave as good as they got. When their time on the watch post comes to an end, they know it, and give it up gracefully to help you accept it. I think they do that so you know it's ok if another canine comes to take over, they would welcome it. And some lucky dog that has the intelligence and a heart big enough for the job will gladly accept the assignment and take the post with the dedication and commitment you reserve exclusively for a dog's love and loyalty. Dogs that come to you after others leave aren't there to replace or substitute. They are there to carry on the legacy of those you lost. Some dog out there deserves your quality brand of love and purpose. I trust you can give this a shot. Not many people can be such a good partner to these critters. Share it.

When we sign up for love, we also sign up for loss. I have had 18 dog companions in my 77 years. They are still with me in spirit and it still breaks my heart that they can’t sit on my lap again or take me for a walk. But I always get another, or two, or three. Love lives on, theirs for me, mine for them.

"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together." -- Author unknown

Phoebe is very beautiful and she obviously is very diligent in her duties! Back in the 80’s I lived in New York City and I was engaged and we had a 90 pound black and rust male named Demon. My fiancé had an uncle with a farm who lived in upstate so she arranged for us to spend a long weekend up there. Her uncle wouldn’t let Demon sleep in the house and about 5AM there was a big ruckus outside! Demon hopped the fence and ate one of the turkeys and was starting to work on another! We apologized and paid for both turkeys and left. A few weeks later we were hanging a Dream Catcher over our bed and Demon hopped up on the bed and put one of the feathers in his mouth and closed his mouth! He was having a flashback of those turkeys and I was using both hands trying to open his mouth and my fingers had dents from his fangs! We had tears from laughing so hard!

The American Veterinary Medical Association states that “ear-cropping and tail-docking are not medically indicated nor of benefit to the patient. These procedures cause pain and distress and, as with all surgical procedures, are accompanied by inherent risks of anesthesia, blood loss, and infection.
@Don_Kee
2 жыл бұрын
Guess what is more dangerous, more painful, more invasive, causes more distress, has much longer recovery, also requires anaesthesia, and literally changes their hormonal balance for the rest of their life? Spaying and neutering. It is also not medically indicated and is rarely beneficial to the patient. Occasionally it can help prevent specific types of cancer, but it's also at the cost of other health problems. In some cases it can even increase the risk of cancer. Do you care at all that its a widely accepted thing for people to just bring their dog or cat in to have their sex organs cut out of their bodies like it's no big deal? 99% of the time is done out of convenience and not necessity. At least ear cropping is an extremely simple and safe procedure with a an extremely fast recovery time. If done properly and at the right age, the dog will be running around like nothing happened almost immediately after waking up from anaesthesia. The ears are completely healed in 14 days or less. I've owned 3 cropped dobies and each one never showed any signs of pain. The worst thing that happened was the ears became itchy as the scabs started to dry up and fall off.
