Just did this on my 2006 w/surface rust and unless your T4R is completely rust free, that control arm isn’t coming down. Also, I found the best way to remove a seized strut is to hit it with a air hammer and it will immediately come free. As far as the rear shock went, I definitely wasn’t able to get that top nut off. Ended up using a sawzall to remove it since the new ones came with new hardware. This install took about 8hrs start to finish. Hats off if you can complete this in 3, but time is of no importance to me when installing suspension components. Good luck & remember to listen to smooth jazz and talk to everything you want to remove. Assure the part you’re just as nervous as it is.

@@ExitOffroad I sure did😂 Your video definitely got me on the right path, thanks for that! Question for you: If I installed C59-300R GS59-221B C59-599R GS59-705B on a 4th Gen should I be level? I feel like I still have a slight rake.

Should consider loosening all the control arms front and rear and retighten once the weight of the vehicle is on the ground. This eliminates pretension and binding of the factory rubber bushes due to the new angle of the control arms from the lift. It extends the life of the bushes.

EDIT: Answered my own question reading the description - duh! Awesome video. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't matter, but just to ask... Is the procedure the same for a 4WD? I know earlier 4Runner suspensions differed slightly between 2WD and 4WD. Also, lower spring perch needs to be at the lowest point in rear to avoid frame contact right?
@ExitOffroad
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the notch in the coil seat faces rearward so that there's more sway bar clearance but it's very minimal difference too
@davewyant2631
3 жыл бұрын
This is probably the best and easiest how-to video that I've seen, but also the first that didn't include removing the sway bar links or the sway bar itself. Is that not necessary because of loosening and lowering the LCAs? Or just plain not necessary.
@ExitOffroad
3 жыл бұрын
There are 2 ways to do this basically. The way the video shows, or taking off the sway bar and the upper ball joint and squeezing out the full assembly between there. I find that more difficult, more time consuming, and then it's hard to pull out a longer strut assembly that way. It's so much easier to bring it straight down.

My understanding was that you leave a small gap between the rear spring seat and the spring itself or else you'll get a squeak.

this technique looks a lot easier than the other videos around youtube. Not sure why other people are not doing this route but rather disconnecting many components. Only thing that i can see from that is they are doing FUCAs whereas you are not doing it in this video
@ExitOffroad
4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if doing UCA'S at the same time, doing it from the top down would save time disconnecting more parts from the bottom. But this method is definitely the fastest if only replacing the coilover assembly as a whole

Great video! This will definitely help with my install and help me do the work in record time since I am planning to go to a DIY shop that charges by the hour. I am doing this on a FJ Cruiser and the tech manual says disconnect brake lines for the rear spring replacement, is that necessary?
@ExitOffroad

As long as you aren't doing long travel rear springs and shocks, you don't need to disconnect any brake lines. Just be careful you don't over extend them. Thanks for watching!!

Hello Sir. I want to add 2 inches of Dobinson lift kit in front and rear to my Prado 150. Should I get Dobinsons IMS or the regular yellow ones? Do I need to get spacers as Prado leans on sharp turns or roundabouts? What should be the front springs- C59-352? Rear Springs C59-325? Front Shocks IMS59-50700 Rear Shocks IMS59-50705. Sorry for asking a long question.
@ExitOffroad
2 жыл бұрын
The IMS are a higher performance option, better for someone who goes offroad often and is looking for better performance offroad. The twin tube shocks are super tough as well, just not as large and not as quick to respond to uneven terrain. Great for all around use and daily drivers. Those coils would work well, just depends how much added weight is on the vehicle. Better to use the IMS59-50701 rear shocks to reduce sway in corners more if that's what you'd like. Lean spacers just correct left to right lean on the ground, for visual correction but not performance

So you loosened the bolts holding the LCAs so they could drop down right? Any specifics on re-tightening those? I can find the torque specs online, but assuming it's pretty straightforward to re-tighten them?
@ExitOffroad
4 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's right. It's in the 120-140LB range from memory, but once everything is installed and on the ground, those get re-torqued. They're the same bolts they loosen to do a wheel alignment.

If you are replacing the UCAs at the same time, would it be more advantageous to replace the assembly from the top?
@ExitOffroad
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I would say so. Pull out the UCA's, install the coilovers, then put the new UCA's back in, and leave the lowers attached. Loosening the LCA cams will still help get some swing out of it, just don't drop the whole thing as you could damage your CV's!!

@ExitOffroad

Some of them get like that. A 1/4" thick strut spacer on the low side will bring it up 1/2" and make it level. Being uneven doesn't affect performance though. Most Toyotas are off from the factory too
