For reference, the TAS times are 40.52 for Warm Up, 41.83 for Training, and 39.38 for Sparring. When comparing to my run here, Warm Up was 8 unstunned frames off the TAS, Training was about 2 frames off (give or take due to PO Wii clock weirdness), and Sparring was 5 frames off of perfect! This totals at ~15 unstunned frames (or 0.89 seconds) off of perfect, so I am very happy with this run. This run finally is within 1 second from the TAS, which I had wanted to do in the past, but couldn't quite pull it off. With the new buffer strategies, as well as extremely aggressive timing for every punch in the game, it's finally happened!
I used to have buffers that waste a frame in Warm-up and Sparring, but decided against them. I do use 2 extra buffers in Training that collectively waste 1 total frame between the two, but I feel that trade off is definitely worth it.
The splits in this run were 41.00 Warm-up, 41.94 Training, and 39.68 for Sparring. The splits in the old 2:02.81 run I was trying to beat were really strong (40.94, 42.31, 39.56), which made completing runs a struggle, since every fight has to be really close to the TAS to have any shot at beating it. When I was doing attempts on my Twitch stream, I had mentioned that the key to beating that run would be to have a killer Training split with minor losses in Warm-up and Sparring, and sure enough, that's exactly how I beat it.
For anyone curious, here is the archive of the run done on Twitch with splits: / 749330884
Stay tuned for the Sparring IL, because I found something pretty interesting for that fight! After Sparring, I'll be switching back to Wii Punch Out fights again.
Thanks for watching!
