Some entry level positions start at $16/hr ?! Keep in mind, Longshoring work is dangerous: exposure to extreme weather, heavy machinery, cargo containers, suspended load, chemicals and the possibility of drowning. They have a higher on-the-job fatality rate than police officers.

Eighteen dockworkers brought in more than $450,000 that year - more than the annual salary as the U.S. President ($400,000) and more than most U.S. workers. The real median household income for all Americans was $74,580 in 2022, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. What people don't realize - In 2023, Daggett earned $901,000 from the ILA, including $728,000 in base salary and $173,000 as president emeritus of ILA Local 1804-1.

Wake up to what? When I was 12 years old in 1993 they said we’d have flying cars by 2010 and you would need to be an expert at computers and know Spanish. Guess what? They lied. You wake up, and stop believing every damn futuristic scare tactic they make up.

I could barely buy toilet paper today, and I'm on the West coast! This dock workers who are striking should be immediately replaced by Migrant workers ... they'll do the work for $5 an hour cheaper!

Good paying jobs are what we need more of. You want cheap labor but that means the workers can't buy as much and the economy will suffer.

@That-Guy_ So you don't want automation? Perhaps we should regress to the stone age in order increase blue collar jobs?

@@autumnfragrance6326 Automation is a Double-Edged knife. When used to do things humans can't or don't want to do it can be great but when used to take away good paying jobs it hurts the economy and shrinks the middle class.
