Like you said, Wanda grew up tragically, lost her parents, was experimented on by Hydra, betrayed by Ultron, lost her brother, had to kill Vison only to have him immediately brought back to watch him die again, then had to get rid of the Hex where she lost Vision for a 3rd time as well as her kids, had everyone hate her for it, and then got taken by the Darkhold. Kevin nailed the vibe I got from Scarlet Witch. What's remarkable is MCU provided so much backstory for Wanda, and we spent so much time with her that when the Darkhold corrupts her, it's sad to see her struggle. She tried to manipulate her mind to give her the future she wanted in Wanda...it imprisoned a whole town. She tried everything she could to be good and do the right thing as an Avenger. And she lost everything. She tells Dr. Strange, straight up...what did you lose? So, she turned to the Darkhold for answers. I loved the fake-out because when it was revealed early on, that "hey, im the bad guy here. " I was like, oh, we will get the Scarlet Witch that scorches the Earth in this movie. The Scarlet Witch is the most powerful Mutant in the Marvel Universe.

Wanda is this far gone BECAUSE of the Darkhold. They explain multiple times that it warps the user so yes it is a stark difference but it's believable. @Alex_Logan22

She's never really been to blame for anything she's done though, it would be like saying Bucky is irredeemable. The Hydra brainwashing was just a much better storytelling device than the Darkhold. The problem isn't that it wasn't believable, but that it was a bad creative decision, or bad execution at least, after all the nuance and care taken with WandaVision. I expect Wanda to be a villain but I don't want storytelling to go backwards. A very easy work around would've been to just have a variant Wanda be the villain, and our Wanda would've still been much weaker without the Darkhold knowledge plus her holding back, so that the villain Wanda still has the same affect. It would've also been a good duality of a Wanda who just sacrificed her kids versus one who's doing everything she can to have them.

Yes, there is a post-credit stinger that shows her looking at other multiverses, but without a hint of malice. The movie just kind of goes straight to immediate evil bad guy. Though I understand Andy's point that having an extra scene that kind of shows the Dark Hold having some sway over Wanda making that reveal less surprising, I think it would have made the turn not feel so sudden. I just rewatched both Wandavision and Doctor Strange and I am sorry Nick is so wrong, I feel like Sam Raimi style fits perfect for this. You get the weird trippyness of Doctor Strange, you get the quirkiness and weird humor of Wandavision, and you have Wanda with these weird powers acting as the Villian (which reminds me of the start of Age of Ultron) and thus the horror elements. And if you watch Wandavision right before this, you will understand why she is doing what she is doing. It feels like Nick has goldish syndrome here, just forgetting what all this stuff was like and how it built to this. A very middle-of-the-pack movie to me. Elizabeth Olson as Wanda was the standout character. The movie is a little messy and the CGI is pretty bad for way too long. The movie's last third (once Wanda arrives in universe 838) is awesome. Captain Britain's and Marvel's death were really cheesy and I really didn't understand why everyone completely dismissed Wanda's powers (literally being able to bend reality), but the chase scene had some great horror vibes. Unfortunately, this movie contained way too much cheese and often reminded me of why I dislike most of Spiderman 1-3. It had some standout moments (music fight, dream walking the corpse of other Dr.Strange, Wanda's arc in the other universe), but the rest was just not good or consistent. And the ending being solved by the typical "believe in yourself"...rolled my eyes to the back of the head. 7/10. Solid movie and entertaining, but that's it.

The point was Doctor Strange's growth and not always 'needing to be the one holding the knife', Nick really missed a lot with this. He acts like they don't set this up, first they mention that more than once like he said. Both Christines mention the exact same thing at different points. Also it is his actions that continue that theme throughout. If you missed main points of the movie, hard for your argument to stand up.

Had a thought about whether John Krasinski will play Reed Richards in the Fantastic4 movie. They've established characters are the same across the entire multiverse. Dr.Strange is the same person is every universe, Mordo, Rachel, are all the same person, played by the same actor in every universe. Captain Carter, Xavier, the list goes on of characters being themselves and not portrayed by someone else in a different universe (their roles might be slightly different in each universe though). I think this just officially established Krasinski as Reed in ALL the multiverse by revealing him in this movie. Changing his actor would break their own established rules. Therefore, I fully believe John Krasinski WILL indeed play Reed Richards in the Fantastic4.

Intentionally and willingly yes, it’s a huge leap of logic to make for the character they established. Once she understood what she had been doing in Westview and what she was going through, she sacrificed everything for a small town of random strangers/nobodies. That’s true hero shit, what she then does here makes no sense without the cheap Darkhold plot device. The writing was weak, the villain should’ve been a variant Wanda if the writers didn’t have the chops to turn WandaVision’s Wanda into a believable/compelling villain. Even though she was a powerful threat, her character arc dropped from peak Marvel character to generic villain.

I understand what you are saying but I don't think that's how WandaVision portrayed the character. Yes, she was the victimizer in the Hex incident but the show tells you that the Hex was created almost accidentally out of Wanda's grief, she was in control subconsciously but she was also playing a part in that show. Vision tries to brings her back to her senses and she realizes that what she did was wrong and that the greater good outweighs her own will. Now, the Darkhold poisons the mind of the user, we've seen that with Agatha and in Agents of SHIELD (in MULTIPLE instances throughout Season 4).

This movie is great because of the correction to the problems of WandaVision. The first 5 or 6 episodes of that are so good, Nick said it’s a nuanced character story that doesn’t have to rely on fighting, but that show devolves so far into big unnecessary fight scenes of characters flying around with energy blasts, I thought it totally lost it’s way in the end. And worst of all, it has no consequences. This is the fallout that we were missing from the end of WandaVision. She IS the villain of that story, she tortured thousands of people for months on end to the point they want to kill themselves. There is no way for her character to come back from that, so I love that they make her this ominous villain here and it lends itself to the horror vibes here so well. Stephen’s story fits in a little wonky but I think they keep it moving well enough to tie it all together.
@Alex_Logan22

The fighting was really just in the last episode. The show was just a fantastic character study, it didn't need more consequences, she sacrificed everything and isolated herself from everyone, going to jail would've potentially endangered others. What she did to Westview was outside of her control and will, done within a severe and blinding depression, and once she realized it she fully rectified it and sacrificed the things she's now hellbent on obtaining because of a cheap plot device she's only reading to better understand her powers just happens to be corrupting her. What happened to Westview's residents sucks yes, but Wanda's persona isn't to blame for crazy powers/circumstances and she can't be killed anyway.

Yeah she’s been through things, but that doesn’t mean you’re allowed to create your own personal Guantanamo Bay just to feel better. Wanda was subconsciously responsible for doing the things she did yes, but Wanda herself wasn't cognitively aware of what was even really going on or how any of it started, she was just enjoying her happiness while her mind blocked/protected her from the truth. And even then her subconscious grief was never a murderous psychopath anyway, Vision and Monica was able to reason with her and get through to the real Wanda even as she was trapped under blinding grief. Once she woke from her reality and became aware of everything, she put everything back to how it was, sacrificed all her happiness including her kids' lives, and isolated herself from everyone to study herself.
