I've always admired how well Doctor Who could handle horror stories without going too graphic or relying on cheap jumpscares. Honestly, kind of makes the most terrifying episodes of Doctor Who even better than a lot of modern horror movies. The horror episodes tend to be some of my favorite just because of how well they do horror. Monsters like the Weeping Angels, Vashta Nerada, The Silence, and The Flood are definitely infinitely more terrifying than a large number of mainstream horror movie monsters and psychopaths.

I don't think much research was made for this classification, it's an opinion of the youtuber. If I had made this video, The Silence would be number one. Everybody has gone into a room and turned around because you forgot what you were going to do there. Transforming that common experience into a monster is a master plot from the writers. Now every time I forget what I was doing or looking for in a room, I start wondering, especially when one or two of those black lines appear in my arm, just like it happens to everyone.

For me easily one of the scariest from nu-who is The Unknowable featured in Listen. Which is easily one the creepiest episodes too. The scene with the creature on the bed is genuinely unsettling. The knocks at the end of the universe are also spine tingling. The fact you're never shown these entities and that they don't seem to cause harm still doesn't diminish their utter creepiness. Listen is still one of my most favorite episodes of all nu-who, just because of its high concept sci-fi/fantasy and its ambiguity of not resolving the matter. Capauldi is mesmerizing in it as is Coleman.

A lot of people think The Silence was the creature, given you forget them as soon as you look away. At the beginning of the episode, "LISTEN" was wrote on the board, and the chalk was on the floor, but Capaldi looked confused, possibly insinuating maybe The Silence wrote that. But how did they get in the TARDIS? Well, how could you remember if they're there or not?

The Silents were so damn scary in my opinion, since they evoked the sense of a “Man in Black” the idea that they could always be pulling the strings. There could’ve been great potential in twists based on this concept, like their being a Silence on the TARDIS, or the creature from Listen could be a Silence. Although the twist about them being no more then confessors was cool, it was sad to have that view of monstrousness taken away from Alas we never got to finish the silence arc since Smith left before the planned series 8 with him, which would explore deeper the siege of trenzalore and the silence, and perhaps restore them to that scare level we saw before

I remember when I was about 7 years old the first time I saw the angels in the episode where they take over Manhattan and after watching it I had nightmares for the next few weeks and one nightmare was so bad that I can still remember it today. Wish the newer doctor who's had a bit more of a fear factor!

The thing that scared me about the silence the most wasn't their abilities or their appearence, it was that the moment i saw the episode for the first time now that i am 23 yo i remember the dream i had when i was 13 yo, being chased by identical creatures when i've never seen the series or anything like it (other than maybe slenderman which is what i thought was chasing me in the dream atm but there's one slenderman and hundreds of these identical things, and i've never felt such fear and discomfort in a dream before, but then i got into dr. Who and saw these and now they terrify me)

The Empty Child: Small detail. It wasn't Jack's ship who infected people. It was the medical pod. They also made a brief Easter Egg where a future doctor said "are you my mummy" Also, Weeping Angel's never actually kill anyone. At least not that I remember? And it's more of feeding off of them.

They do in the Crash of Byzantium arc (don't remember the names of the episodes, but those are the two where it's established that Angel's image becomes an Angel and Amy has one trapped in her mind while the _Crack From My Bedroom Wall_ deletes the priests and angels from existance). Then they just snap the necks, SCP-173 style.

The Weeping Angels got a lot less scary for me after we got to see one move in real time. Only ever seeing them move in jump cuts made them more immersive as villains, like they were hunting the viewer as well as the characters. Watching an Angel turn it's head just looks silly.
