The Doctor didn't lie about the Dreamlord, When he looks at the TARTIS console and you see the Dreamlord that is the Doctors reflection,as to say the way he sees himself. With all the things the Doctor has done no one hates him more then he himself does. He really is quite a tragic figure who hides the worst of himself from those around him and can not at times see the good that he does, even though he tries to do and be the best he can to be a good man.

He didn't lie. The doctor carries a lot of darkness and hatred within himself. The reflection was an understanding that it has been revealed to the people he cares for the most and it makes him uncomfortable. The fact that they still care for the doctor is why these are my favorite companions. They bring out the best in him and allow him to have a sense of family as this series keeps going.

something this episode does to show how good the Doctor is is when he's saving people in the village with the van. He's certain that the village is the dream, but he still goes out of his way to save people and get them to safety even though he believed they weren't even real.

Great reaction! As you said during the episode, many of the Dream Lord's arguments are valid. And it makes sense if the Dream Lord is just the Doctor's fears and insecurities in physical form. Going back, I always find the rewatch of this episode so sad and just want to give the Doctor a hug. The Doctor (to the Dream Lord): "There's only one person in the universe that hates me as much as you."

You might know Toby Jones (The Dreamlord) from Captain America but he's also great in a BBC Comedy/Drama called Detectorists about a treasure hunting duo with Metal Detectors.

Guest writer- Simon Nye. He wrote the situation comedy 'Men Behaving Badly'. It focused on the follies of the young men characters. Not surprising, this is a script about how they feel about each other An endothermic reaction is a chemical reaction where it takes heat energy from its environment. However, this requires an invisible gas to surround the Tardis as it needs a medium to transfer the heat. Unfortunately, they built a new set - then had to spray it in fake ice. It was NOT a lie. Dream Lord was the Doctor. We've seen something similar happen in Classic Who. The Doctor is in fear of 'if you live enough, you become the bad guy'.

I used to think the dream Lord was the master in a hologram . a couple of years ago I realised the doctor said it was the evil version of him . he said to Amy that's what he would be like if he became very dangerous

This is the first story of Series 5 not to have any cracks, silence or direct foreshadowing of the silence. Despite a persistent fan theory that the Dream Lord is actually the Master, Simon Nye has since officially confirmed the rumour is false. Karen Gillan had to wear a latex prosthetic stomach bump for the scenes which depicted Amy as pregnant. She claimed it made her feel more mature and act ridiculously, and cited it as her favourite part of filming the series.

Love this reaction! I wasn’t sure about this episode when it first aired, but like much of Doctor Who it gets better when rewatched. As mentioned earlier Toby Jones (The Dream Lord) is outstanding as Lance in Detectorists which is genius if you’ve not seen it. He’s also equally brilliant in a BBC film called ‘Marvellous’ which is a true life based story which blurs the line between drama and actuality. It also features another Doctor Who guest star whose acquaintance you’ve probably made fairly recently!

Another great reation to a really good story. As i watched this episode on broadcast i thought it was based on a story from 1968 - don'ts think it is but it is similar in that the doctor and companions are part of someone's game - although th8nking about it there's also an earlier story that's similar.

I'll just say it here, this is my favorite story of Series 5, and is easily in my top 5 Eleventh Doctor Stories. I've always loved it when things played with the concept of dreams, but pair that with just a generally emotional core aswell as Matt being at top performance as The Doctor and you've got yourself a masterpiece in my eyes.

The best episode for you so far? For me it's the worst of Series 5. The fact that it wastes such an interesting one-time villain on a story this boring brings it down even below Chibnall's two episodes for me. In fact I find it insulting. Yes, this episode is insulting to the potential of that character.

I love these little self-contained conceptual stories like this, and Midnight, and Blink, and Human Nature etc. Some people find them boring, and that’s ok. But for me, this is really where Doctor Who shines.

@@ihateunicorns867 I also don't like Midnight. It's entire formula is "here is rule # for this world" and then breaking that rule without explanation or anything, and then a character sacrifices herself to save the Doctor because he's the protagonist.

@@coladict Well, we're allowed different opinions on things. It makes things interesting. Although, I don't think the hostess sacrifices herself to save just The Doctor, she sacrifices herself to save everyone on board and to stop this malevolent lifeform from getting back to the complex.
