The reason Kate Heron got to write for the show is actually because of RTD's offhanded remarks about Loki being declared Bi being a "craven, feeble gesture" because it wasn't really shown onscreen. He went to apologize for the scandal that accidentally caused and it turned out they got along, so they kept talking and when he got the showrunner role he immediately invited her on. Clearly this episode was her making up in full for not depicting it onscreen.

Not only the shorter run times, but also with having less episodes. 8 episodes is nowhere nearly enough to fully flash out the characters and give us the sense of a "normal adventure" with them. I mean, think about it, apart from this one and Dot and Bubble all the other episodes the stakes were a lot higher and they were not "normal adventures" by any measure. We need more episodes. I understand that because of production times today having a long season like 20 or so episodes is completely unreasonable (unless we want to wait more than 2 years minimum for each season), but 13 or so episodes are very much feasible and would be a lot better.

I totally agree with you about @41:40 - Most people who dislike this storyline simply due to the fact it "came out of nowhere", or for how flirty the Doctor was being with someone they've just met, are just being hypocrites imo. Did they have the same issue with episodes like Girl in the Fireplace or Voyage of the Damned? This is far from the first time the Doctor has flirted and kissed a person they've just met. Just because this one happened to be a man, it changes nothing. The Doctor isn't "suddenly gay", they were never actually straight to begin with. I mean, what would being straight even mean for an alien who can change their entire body and personality, including their sex and gender? I thought their chemistry was great, and whether we see Rogue again or not, it was a fun dynamic to watch develop and it gave us some awesome, much-needed character moments for 15.

@@thetalonsofwaynechiang This is exactly why I said most. If you're one of the people who DID have an issue with these other storylines as well, and just prefer to read the Doctor as aro/ace, then cool. I totally respect that and get where you're coming from as a demi person myself. However, this isn't the case with every commenter who has been using this issue to excuse their homophobia. I was talking about the type of people who didn't have an issue with the Doctor kissing/flirting/falling in love with women he'd just met in said episodes or like, the TV Movie etc - but when the Doctor kisses a MAN he's just met, it's suddenly "too fast" and not believable..
@charg1nmalaz0r51

These arguments are so dishonest. Yes they probably did have a problem with those type of stories too, because its obviously something that annoys them when it comes to writing. You are essentially projecting the fact that you liked those stories and are using it as an argument to dismiss someone else point when they have not said otherwise. You will also note that these episodes are in the same era where they have been slowly sexualising the doctor and not a lot of original fans like that aspect of new who either.
@micron000
3 ай бұрын
@@charg1nmalaz0r51 Well, if you read my response to another commenter above, you'll see that it isn't the case. I repeat that I have NO ISSUE with people who didn't enjoy these stories either. I was referring to the people who had no problems with the Doctor flirting or kissing women he's just met in the past, but suddenly have a problem now that said love interest happens to be another man. That's just an excuse for homophobia as far as I can tell. For what it's worth, I actually really dislike Voyage of the Damned, and was always a bit meh on Girl in the Fireplace lol.. So no, it's really not me projecting anything. It's just me being tired of running into homophobic opinions in comment sections for reviews of Rogue, that's all.

The episode was great and I'm really hoping that Rogue will become a guest companion (maybe even a full companion in the future? 🤔) and we see a lot more of him in the future. I really hope he at least becomes something like a River Song, someone the Doctor truly loves and someone that truly understands the Doctor.

I'm not in the LGBTQ community, but I absolutely Loved this episode. Very "classic" Doctor Who type episode but with modern adjustments. For all those who might complain about him enamored with a guy, did you have an issue with Rose? With the Woman in the Fireplace? The woman when the Doctor's psyche was kept in the pocket watch when he battled with The Family? How about that he has a Granddaughter dating all the way back to the First Doctor? If you didn't have issues with them, then your issue is that it's a guy, and as we've seen The Doctor is non-binary and can regenerate into male, female, or something undefined. Rogue is like the Jack Harkness for this Doctor, at least in terms of "vibes," and I hope that he returns. Wouldn't mind seeing him as a Companion or perhaps The Companion for Ncuti's final season for example. Very interesting character. The "bad guys" are ok, but beyond this one episode I'm not sure if we need to see them again. But yeah, this episode is a 10/10 from me.

What I like about Ncuti is that his doctor has none of the heavy guilt and restriction that the other doctors placed on himself so he is truly free to express his open feelings and that is how I am watching this series right now he has not burdened himself with any guilt so far. Which actually would play into the reason behind the bi-generation - splitting off his trauma. To me, it's part of why this doctor cries more often - he's learned to feel his emotions, process, and then move on in a healthier way. When he left that behind, he could easily have included his sexual repression. In other words he feels for the first time, the good and the bad.

Has for dashing it's a sci-fi adventure show 90 percent of the characters can be described as dashing. Dapper, on the other hand Rogue probably isn't. Yes, he looks great, but he is undercover in a Brigerton themed episode. The only hint we have of his true stuff is his ship and that was a mess. So he's probably a bit of a slob. I NEED more episodes of TV like this! An adventure with found romance that was done so well with a character, despite his very limited screen time, I really liked! The Doctor telling Rogue who he actually is in the most grandiose way possible while the heads of all the previous doctors revolved around him was just really awesome. No wonder Rouge fell for him so quickly, I probably would have folded in seconds. I loved the way Ruby acted in this setting since she's from the 21st century and with shows like Bridgerton kind of being her only previous experience with this era of human history. I love how she's just chatting with people in this era like she would be talking with people about the show Bridgeton in her original era. I also love when we get these types of episodes before the big finale type events begin. Next is the penultimate episode before the finale so we're about to kick off the story that will take us to the end of the season which will be incredibly important to the future of this Doctor and the series going forward so it's incredibly nice to have this deep character episode right before the big seasonal event begins! 9/10 episode, in my opinion!

If you watch Rogues performance and listen to his accent and the fact he hints he knows the Doctor...I think it IS Captain Jack...or it could be AI River!!!!

He shows no indication he knows the doctor, the fact that he tries to incinerate him at the start should tell you that, and the fact he walks into the tardis and is shocked by it again should tell you that. Just because he has an american accent doesnt make him jack. The only reason this character exists is because RTD knew captain hack was popular before and wanted a character just like him

I think he's Jack pre-memory wipe. This version of Jack hasn't even assumed the identity of Capt Jack Harness yet. Just one possibility of who Rogue is.

When did he ever hint at knowing the Doctor? River’s story is already over and resolved. As for Jack how about we get a new character for once?

😮 Doctor Who flashback. When 13th doctor and this doctor went up against toy maker, Ncuti told the 13th doctor he is unburdened by all of the guilt. He is free of it, therefore, instead of being emotionally closed off like he’s always been when things hit him hard. He’s going to react with whatever emotions he feels at the moment and to be honest with you as a viewer of Doctor Who when I watch these episodes and of all the series before, when all the emotional stuff I I genuinely honestly I cry because I feel the pain and that’s what Ncuti is doing and as a fan of Doctor Who I am so happy because I understand and I can relate and that’s why I love this particular doctor 😊🎉

I really like Rogue. It’s nice to have a fun episode again after the two rather heavy ones previously. I know there are many times when we’ve seen one-off characters that said they’d return but it really feels like we’ll see Rogue again. And I really like the chemistry that Ncuti and Jonathan Groff have. It took me a rewatch to buy their romance. Whenever he’s fallen in love, it’s always been either with a companion or with a one-off character reluctantly. It's never so quick and so obvious. It took him forever to admit his feelings to Rose, River, and Yaz. That being said, I liked the chulders and that they just ended up maliciously playing. I love the _Caberet_ reference they make. I never believed for a second that Ruby was dead… again. At the rate she’s going, she’ll beat Rory’s record for deaths. And it was really funny in a really meta way to hear Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”. I almost wanted the Doctor to reference Astrid as a character directly.

Def tickled my... something! Hell yeah for a gay doctor! Though I get the feeling that one bald time lord lady from Capaldis era wouldn't mind some fish ham. Great review guys, loved the episode and how well they pulled it off. Can't wait to see your review of the finale!

i find the comments on Fifteen crying really strange for two reasons: one, it's been a different emotion every time, so commenting on it as a common thing or something that happens often doesn't make sense, and two, even then, it's no different than having Capaldi raise his eyebrows as often as possible, Tennant shouting, or Smith speaking softly and up close. You do it bc they're damn good at it, so why dial it back
