the very last scene was omitted from press copies of the episode; it ended with that zoom out from earth, after the master seems to have won so on broadcast the time lord business came as a swerve out of nowhere, one of few secrets the production team managed to keep almost entirely (though for those very in-the-loop there was one strange behind-the-scenes photo of tennant, simm, and dalton together that raised more questions than it answered)

Ah the end of Series 4.5 is upon us! I love this whole story. RTD brought us Daleks to end Series 1, then Cybermen & Daleks for 2, The Master for 3, Davros & Daleks for 4, and Time Lords for 4.5!! I like SM as showrunner too, but something about the way these 4.5 series came at you harder each time was just amazing to be here for, I'm glad you both got to experience it too! The Warriors callback was fun, that movie is iconic. Looking forward to watching the next one. I did not see when you would be live with Discord so I missed it, but I'll try to pay more attention and find out.

Fun fact: The original plan for a New who companion back when Russel was planning the revival in 2003 was for a old man who joins the doctor to escape his retirement home, the exact inverse of the stereotypical “screaming doctor who girl who runs away in high heals”. But when they started mapping out the show RTD decided that it should be more modern and have a younger companion who reinvents the Who companion formula instead of rebuking it, and rose was born. The doctor traveling with Wilfred in this episode is RTD doing a homage to his original plan in his final story. You can tell he’s had the “Doctor and old man” idea In his head for a long time because the 10 and Wilf dynamic is very fleshed out.

Thanks guys, you've really got to watch "The Cornetto Trilogy", 1-Shaun of the dead, 2-Hot Fuzz and finally 3-The Worlds End, Timothy Dalton plays a great part in Hot Fuzz, and there's a lot of actors you'll know from Who, I think you'll love these movies, as for Bernard Cribbins, he has travelled in the TARDIS before, way back in 1966 in the movie "Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.", it stars Peter Cushing as Dr Who, and it's in colour.

I still wonder how many outfits did John Simm wear in this finale & how long did it take him to film every different appearance he had in these episodes? Also, just to be clear, The Master (whose current regeneration is that of a Caucasian male with blonde hair & blue eyes) wanted to turn everyone on Earth into versions of himself & he called them The Master Race. Alright then.

For context - the Master "died" something like 4 to 9 times (depending on fan judgement) in the classic show - then popped right back up without explanation and the Doctor was never really "surprised" either. Oh man, here we go toward the ending! I can now say spoiler-free that Wilf is my favorite companion across the show. He's just so endearing and sincere, and I'm so glad this two-parter gave him the chance to travel in the Tardis with the Doctor. With the way this episode ended, all the aliens hiding out on Earth have gotta be feeling really called out right now, being the only ones not turned into the Master. So much set up in the episode, I always forget how much happens in this one because it really covers so much ground. The one part that sticks with me the most though is the one with Wilf and the Doctor talking, when he tells him he's going to die, it's a simple scene but lets the actors really show their emotion throughout the conversation. The joke about "Noble-Temple" lives rent-free in my head too, for some reason.

"Are you my Mummy" - Series1 episode 9 "The Empty Child" - This is the similar technology, hence the Cacti's interest in salvaging the machine. This technology is how the Master changed the Template into himself, a little different to the Matrix.

It was quite a coup RTD getting Timothy Dalton in for this 2 parter. His fee was apparently £150,000 so Dalton didn’t do it for the money! Lol. He was quoted at the time as saying that he was aware of Doctor Who growing up in North Wales, but he would have been 17 when the show started in 1963, so it’s possible he didn’t get to see much of it, if at all. But hey, £150 grand in your pocket and playing the Time Lord President of Gallifrey is not a bad thing to have on your CV! Have to say I was a little disappointed with Tennant’s swan song story. Didn’t like what RTD did with the Master’s resurrection and bringing back the Time Lords, although all the loose ends since the Master’s return at the end of season 3 are neatly tied up, so that was a plus point.
@HuntingViolets

I would have kind of liked them to continue the Doctor down the dark path that he started down in the previous episode, coming to his realization towards the end and welcoming his regeneration as a chance to start over. I know they have already watched the last episode, so I can say I also wasn't a fan of a lot of the ending, including the farewell tour, or of the Master's return, but a little of SimmMaster goes a long way for me.

No reaction to the Doctor marrying (and apparently consummating the marriage) and breaking up with Queen Elizabeth I (aka the Virgin Queen -- well, there is a reaction to that part)? A cheap laugh and kind of a disappointing payoff (for me) to her ire with him in "The Shakespeare Code." At any rate, we missed the Tenth Doctor's end-of-life fratboy crisis, apparently.
