"I don't care that you got old. I care that we didn't grow old together." That right there is why I adore Rory.

It is episodes like this that make it very easy to believe the main reason Matt Smith decided to hang up his boots is because, after Karen and Arthur left, work wasn't as much fun without his best friends being there. Like the Fourth Doctor after Sarah Jane leaves, or Ten after Donna.

This is one of my favourite episodes in the entire show: a great showcase of both how close Amy and Rory’s relationship is, and how despite their close friendship Amy and the Doctor are still 2 different people from different races who have completely different beliefs and moral codes (Amy’s human compassion and survival instincts turning her against the Doctor, and the Doctor preserving the laws of time turning him against the older Amy)! This episode Was done by the same guy who did the original Cyberman story with David Tennant back in S2 (a huge upgrade personally) and it was rewritten at the last minute so the doctor stays in the Tardis, a change that added some great drama between Amy and Rory

I didn't realise it was by the guy who did the S2 Cybermen two-parter. As you say, massive upgrade (great pun, btw). I think this episode pairs brilliantly with The God Complex, too - and how that looks more closely at Amy and the Doctor's relationship.

The difference is Rory knew exactly how long he was waiting. Everyday Amy woke up she didn't know if that was the day she'd be rescued. It's the hope that kills you.

So true! Also he chose to wait, he didn't need to. Amy was (or at least she felt) abandoned by them. She didn't choose to wait.

Rory and Amy, as a couple, are on my Top Five DW Companions list, and this episode is a perfect demonstration of why. (The other four are Sarah Jane Smith, Tegan Jovanka, Ace, and Donna Noble. I started watching back in 1980, so Classic Who companions are definitely included!)

regarding the theme connection-part of it is there-the season started with the doctor's death and everyone else finding a younger him,knowng he is going to die(and send the cars-"who do you call when this is the end?") and the second half was with the river reveal and how to move foward with the gap(the ponds not raising her and the time lost).here-the maybe same general idea-"would you stend by their bedside for 24 hours or watch them live and entire life(paraphrasing).so there is some theme connection

I think it would be different if Rory had lived all those days with the older Amy. It's not really about whether she's old or young. The plan was to get both of them out but for him to continue on in the life he would have had with his Amy, who was young. I don't think an older version would choose a younger Amy. And then too, Rory didn't make the choice; Amy did. Edit: Similar to what Rekkai says.

20:33 As much as I love Karen, I've always hated this fight scene. As Nebula, on the other hand, her fights are awesome. I'm not sure if it was because she hadn't done any fight scenes before or if it was just the editing with the unnecessary slow motion and the weird angles. Still a fun episode, though.
@SeeJay81
Күн бұрын
In her defense, she was put through intense fight training for Nebula (and Jumanji). Doctor Who doesn't really invest in the training for fight sequences. I followed her on IG and her training for Nebula was insane! She trained HARD for MONTHS to get into that kind of shape. Contractually she had to.
@MrDarkwing78
Күн бұрын
@@SeeJay81 Absolutely, and she crushed it as Nebula. As I said, I’m sure she hadn’t done fight scenes before this, and you’re right, fight choreography isn’t really high on, or perhaps even on the Doctor Who list of priorities at all. Still, thinking about it, she did do a better job here than Dante and Randall’s fight in Clerks. 😂
