My dads family (Gilliam) is from Pikeville and I remember the flood of 77. They relocated to Mt. Sterling, KY after that. And Dwight Yoakum is from Pikeville, I think we're 2nd/3rd cousins? His grandma is my grandpas sister........I think LOL.

I had a great granduncle worked as a conductor. Lot of my family are from Pike, Kentucky and buried there. Ty for doing this story, we get to see how it was for my former family that is long gone now.

The music drowns out the audio of the talking. And, speaking of music, how in hell do you produce anything about Pikeville and not use Dwight's music??

My entire family, from five generations back, comes out of the Hellier, Pikeville, Lawrence area. I am determined to visit my ancestral home at some point in time.

I wonder if moving the river was a good idea the water ways look "dredged" there's no way to slow it down it acts more like a cannel than a natural river...

What a lovely little town....Too bad the citizens voted for Moscow Mitch....Too independant and anti American for my liking.

Some politicians keep getting reelected even though you can find no one that admits to voting for them. Being independent minded and self sufficient are American qualities while the reverse is un-American even though they're promoted as desired traits by the parasitic corporate/media/academia/political machine.

I attended St Francis Catholic Elementary School in Pikeville during the early years of the Cut Through construction. The school was beneath the church on South College Street, not far from the site. I remember how cool we kids thought the dynamite blasts were. The Pikeville Cut Through is a wonder to behold, thanks Mayor Hambley, the Man That Moved a Mountain.
