Doddabetta Peak:
Nestled amidst the Blue Mountains the quintessential town of Ooty allures visitors in abundance to witness its postcard picture perfect beauty. Nilgiris are more popular as Blue Mountains as it is believed to be cloaked with the blue haze of the rare Kurinji blue flowers that bloom once in 12 years.
The term Doddabetta means Big Mountain in Badaga language. It is a combination of two words Dodda meaning big and Betta which means mountain. It satiates the desire of an avid trekker yearning for the best place to trek with its awe-inspiring views.
The grandeur of the mountain along with the sub alpine shrubs and shola thickets exudes admiration. There are 24 higher peaks in the Nilgiris and Doddabetta is the highest peak among them. It is frequently visited by travel aficionados interested in outdoor pursuits like trekking.

Ooty Tea Park:
At a distance of 8 km from Ooty Bus Station, Tea Park is a park situated near Doddabetta in Ooty. It is one of the popular gardens in Ooty, and among the must-visit places as part of Ooty tour packages. The Tea Park at Doddabetta was developed by the Department of Horticulture and Plantation Crops to increase the awareness of the process of tea making amongst the tourists, and also to promote TEA as a healthy drink.
This Tea Park also serves to de-congest the tourist traffic during the peak period as people may visit it after visiting Doddabetta and then go towards Kotagiri. Tea trekking path inside the Tea garden with a display of tea history and its origin, entry to China, India, and to the Nilgiris by providing display materials engraved in granite stones at regular intervals with musical arrangements on the path.
There are two gazebos- one at the top view the entire tea garden and the other near Kotagiri road end to view the Karnataka state sceneries as well as the mountain views of the Nilgiris. There is also a small ornamental garden to entertain the visiting tourists without disturbing the natural undulations and landscapes with play materials for children. There is also an administrative building with cross-section views of tea machinery used in tea processing.

Ooty Toy Train:
One thing that promises to be a highlight of your visit to Ooty is the Nilgiri Mountain Railway experience. If you are travelling from Mettupalayam to Ooty, go for the Ooty Mountain Railway, rather than any other mode of transport. More commonly known as the Ooty Toy train, the experience you get here is really out of the world.
The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is the only mountain railway that operates on a daily basis in South India. The train runs one to and fro journey every day and the frequency increases during peak summer, to accommodate the heavy inflow of tourists. The train runs from Mettupalayam to Ooty via Coonoor.
