Whoever did my pan before I had the van watched your video. They caked the pan with rtv instead of a gasket. It’s definitely didn’t hold.😂

I never could figure out how much fluid to put in.....with the pan out of the car I filled it with 3 quarts of oil before it overflows....I bought a dorman oil pan 265-801 which has a drain plug.....when I empty the pan using the plug 3,5 quarts come out because you still have some fluid dripping from the pan. You really need to make sure the RTV does not come into contact with fluid. I find the back part of the transmission continues to drip when then car in on an angle. With the drain plug I let it drain over night and then the mating surfaces are oil free. I use a felpro gasket TOS18687 with a thin layer of RTV sealer, I find the comes off easier next time than just with RTV, Great video.

I'm guessing a small amount of fluid for lube around filter gasket? Because to much was making it so the filter wouldn't stay popped in.

Great video and easy step by step instructions. My question is it not necessary to flush out the remaining fluid in the torque converter and valve bodies? Thanks
@crownedroyal2003

+robert Martinez I'm not aware of any way to remove fluid from the torque converter and valve bodies without disassembling the transmission. It would have been nice if Dodge placed a drain plug on the transmission pan so you could drain the fluid, refill, drive and repeat. That would be the easiest way to ensure you get most of the fluid exchanged.

For $25 you can purchase a pan from Rockauto with a drain plug I installed one in my van and now I change the trans fluid every summer. Torque converters used to have plugs in them so you could drain the fluid out and so did the pans. Think of how much money car companies are saving by not installing those plugs, that's why they're not there anymore.

a good idea will be to read the owner manual to know how many liters it will need
@artsnow8872

The owner's manual usually lists the TOTAL amount of transmission it can hold. When you drain the transmission, the torque converter DOESN'T drain. So check the fluid level as he instructed

Would it be possible to suction the ATF fluid from the fill tube beforehand so not so much oil splashes out as I’ll be working from underneath the car? Thanks! Very helpful.

Yes it would be helpful. Although getting it completely removed would not be possible.

A little late, but what you can do is disconnect the little hose from the deposit and connect another hose that goes to a reservoir as to avoid spilling. After that start the car and the oil will drain itself enough to let you work without making a whole mess.

When I did mine, I bought a new pan from Amazon with a drain plug in it. It's made by Dorman (265-801) and cost about $19. Very well made and I was able to use the gasket that came with the new filter and have had no leaks after one year. The advantages of doing this are: 1) Easy draining on future fluid changes with less mess. 2) You don't have to clean your original pan with all the original RTV stuck on it. 3) No RTV needed with new pan (old pan often gets bent when removing and then a gasket alone often won't seal). This also makes it easier for future filter changes because RTV doesn't have to be scraped off.

Hey nice video I came across it because I think my transmission isn't doing well and needed some advice I changed both my transmission speed sensors and it revs and moves slow when warmed up idk if it could be my torque converter or just the whole transmission being bad

Own a 2014 Grand Caravan, SXT 6 cyl motor. transaxle passenger front went....sitting in driveway, was told the transmission on these vehicles are sealed and need to be replaced as a unit....Is it true? Couldn't find the transmission fluid check or where to put more fluid in. Did they change it?

I have yet to service the newer transmission. Service information says the fluid level check needs to be checked with the scan-tool to verify transmission temperature, and a special tool is need to verify fluid level. Doesn't appear to have a dip stick.

bolts have nuts screws don't, the pan has screws holding it on
@jmhm17
5 жыл бұрын
Wrong. A screw is pointed and is used to form it's own grooves into the material it's being "screwed" into. A bolt does not need to use a nut to be called a bolt. Bolts are tightened into a peice of matieral with grooves already cut out to accept the bolt. A bolt is a fastener by its self with no nut. I thought this was common knowledge please Google it.

Shopping for a lightly used Dodge GC right now....how do i know if the transmission has the low drum updated part? I've been told it was around 2016 but I cannot find a single document to show which year or serial number series the change was implemented. I found 2 records of the updated drum part online dated back in 2015, but that might just be when they started shipping....can anyone shed some light on when exactly the updated part went into production vans on the assembly line?

hi. I have a 96 dodge caravan sport, only 112k miles replaced original transmission 10 years ago, now have a problem, Upon starting and putting into drive, it feels like it slips immediately after driving a few feet into neutral while on (D) Drive. I completely stop, try reverse,low gears and nothing happens. I restart engine and it will drive again but repeat . I call the dodge tech hotline and they say it is my transmission. any information would help before i give up on this van. thanks

try 120 ft pounds in a back and forth kind of chris cross pattern so that you don't warp the pan and to help make the bolts as evenly tightened as possible. kind of like your tire wheel. another thing people could try is getting a couple of 10mm studs and screw them in on opposite ends of course and use them as alignment bolts..would just mean that instead of screw bolts you would have nuts. Just a suggestion
