I'm not one for early proclamations, but it is a reallllyyy deep and talented roster. They've got an elite pitching/relief staff, mash at the plate, and play some real solid defense almost everywhere on the diamond

61 wins before the all start break.....ive been watching the phils since i was 4 (32 now) and i cant say how pins and needles i have been on the last 4 seasons. watching the young bulls come in like Stott, Bohm, Marsh, and Suarez in that time has been like watching a movie. theyve struggled, theyve over come. im a little-stitious so i wont say what i wanna say but its a good year to watch Phillies babseball

@@robertlosasso4222 Hey, that's a fair point - on paper, the Phils _shouldn't_ have lost to the Dbacks. But baseball is a funny game sometimes. I think the biggest reason the Phils lost last year was because Thomson mismanaged it big time. I think the talent pool on the team currently has the potential to be the best Phillies team of all time. But I think if this Phils lineup gets a world series or two or three, I'd be willing to concede it's a deeper team. But it's hard to forget a team that had Howard, Utley, Ruiz, Lidge, Hamels, Rollins... They got two world series appearances in a row for goodness sake.

I agree wholeheartedly but Marchan has options and Stubbs is a big part of the clubhouse chemistry. Tough call, but once JT is back it will matter a lot less. Marchan will be number 2 soon if not this year. Better thrower, better hitter, switch hitter to boot! Good future ahead of him.

The concept of the opener is quite simple. For most teams, the best hitters are at the top of the lineup. A reliever is only pitching one inning, so do you have that reliever face the best hitters, or bring that reliever in when the preceding pitcher has hit a pitch count limit and the bottom of the lineup is coming to bat? The manager wants that reliever to produce maximum “value” by facing the best hitters, which is only guaranteed in the first inning.
