I definitely feel like when the Lord says to forgive others and then he forgives us, it's so that we do not become hard-hearted and refuse to be forgiving and merciless! It's actually trying to put us in a position to teach us how to soften our hearts and love others unconditionally, just like he has asked us to do in love thy neighbor as you love thyself. And it's the same as he loves us. I feel like he always wants to forgive us no matter what. But in this particular case I feel like he's also putting us in a position to learn a lesson!

It's crazy that I never really thought of the philosophy and psychology associated with desire this way. Desire at its core is a felt "lack" experienced by humans, and an attempt to fill that lack of our own accord is us simultaneously acknowledging our lack of trust/faith in God. It seems so simple and yet is not often talked about.

I wonder if the choice of word with Abraham was because up to that point Avraham had continued to fail and fail and abuse HIS promises or trust and so was a place to see if just for once he would take HIM at HIS word as he did taking him to see the stars and counting them. Curious on thoughts ^.^ Tested vs tempted is what helped me with English but for sure the Greek is way way more beautiful and nuanced. Thank you guys for sharing and all you do! Total blessing, Shalom Shalom fam!

Interesting statement: God gives good things, though sometimes a thing might not look or feel good. He said, "What father among you will give your son a snake when he asks for a fish." Sometimes He gives a fish that looks like a snake.

A test reveals to us helpfully what we know, what we have just learned, what is tried and true, and what is yet to be learned and practiced. Ahhhh haaaaaa❤

Well... do we want to be forgiven by God? And does The Others want to be forgiven by US and/or God-The-Father and God-The-Son?

No. indeed THIS CANNOT BE THE CASE for we can ONLY meaningfully forgive others AFTER WE HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN for our unforgiveness by confessing it as sin that we might repent of it and BE CLEANSED the legalistic abuse of this bible passage is among the cruelest teachings of the backslidden and legalistic church there is and biblical context requires this, for "we love only because he first loved us"; moreover "those who walk in the flesh CANNOT submit themselves to the law of God "( ie forgiving others) if his grace does not come first we are al damned
