Another fun fact about the brain is that a lot of the higher order functions (abstract thinking, stuff beyond sensory data, etc) takes place in the frontal cortex, which humans have a larger one of these than most animals, including other primates. So it could be that humans are capable of more complicated feats of building, thinking, etc, due to this more specialized region of our brains rather than it being a merely a question of brain size or brain to body mass ratios.

8:55 a correction/further information here, the usage of "bug" referring to defects predates the invention of electronic computers, it has been used in engineering since the 1870s (no clear origin). The moth in the computer did popularize the usage of "bug" in computers when the operator who found the bug was also familiar with the engineering term and joked about it being the "First actual case of bug being found." (the wording here shows the term "bug" predates this event)

I mean ants (all insects in fact) have "smaller brains" in their bodies, and octopi, have "small brains" in tentacles, so tentacles can make basic decisions...
@oucyan
3 жыл бұрын
sort of incorrect. insects are weird. while they do have a central brain in their head, they also have a really thick column of nerves that runs along the length of their body connected to a bunch of Ganglia. it's why cockroaches can survive without a head (until they die of thirst/starvation from not being able to ingest food and water). it isn't that they have additional brains, just that that column of nerves picks up some of the slack of the brain. Many simple organisms like crinoids, starfish, jellyfish and mussels/oysters/clams don't have brains at all. They have a nerve network that dictates their actions. Brains are incredibly advances and suck up a lot of resources to maintain, so for more simple organisms they aren't worth the investment. As for Octopi, their tentacles don't have true brains either. those "small brains" you mentioned are just clumps of motor neurons that react to external stimuli, process the information from said external stimuli, and react accordingly. It's a system that makes it easier for the central brain to control all eight limbs in tandem without messing up the commands.
@swagmaster699

I'm personally more curious about Flabébé's "brain." It is the smallest Pokemon as was mentioned, but is also capable of learning some psychic moves (though I do note that none of them are learned naturally through level-up). Pokemon in general tend to appear to be smarter than most animals and closer to human-like intelligence, so it may not be as simple as having the kind of brain an insect would have, and besides, most bug types are bigger than Flabébé.

saw your alternate universe theories throughout the videos you've made. This made me create a theory that may or may not have been made yet. What if Pokemon Sword and Shield takes place not in a third universe but in the first universe despite dynamax. If we look at Galar itself it seems the dynamax phenomenon is only region and area specific. This can be seen with Spikemuth and its previous gym trainer Piers. It seems that the dynamax effect is only in certain areas. These areas are usually where gyms are built but not spikemuth. This tells us that this phenomenon is truly native to certain areas and most definitely native to Galar, this could explain the lack of mega evolution, and there is talk of different regions and in the original Pokemon there was no mega evolution and there is none in Galar, this means that our sword and shield universe could be set in the original and could probably just not have made it into the megaverse (mega evolution).

Would definitely love to see you do a video on the dumbest Pokémon. That would be hilarious

HUGE fan of these types of videos, wish game theory made more things like this instead of trend-related stuff all the time. Keep on being great Lockstin!
