It turns out that pencil size DOES matter. Using this Kaweco lead holder, which is shorter (although thicker and heavier) than most pens or pencils we use on a daily basis, I found I had to grip it differently which increased hand fatigue greatly. On the upside, since it was so heavy and the graphite in it was so thick, I could press down and lean on it with intensity. Also I enjoyed how the brass quickly gained a sort of patina from my dirty hands (graphite dust-encrusted) and this patina was worn clear in spots from other pens in my pocket during the course of the day, sort of personalizing the pen, one of my favorite things.
