It doesn’t have much to do with the type of metal in the 10k. I’m from a part of Europe where 8k is the standard a jeweler will show you when you ask for gold. “Darker” doesn’t mean better. All the other metals will tarnish over time, which will make the overall chain darker. Silver will get dark grey, sometimes almost black over time. 14k and up will pretty much keep it’s color, since we are far over the 50% mark.

10kt and 14kt gold has a huge variance in colors as well. Jewelers can order "colors" of 14 and 10 kt gold like yellow, royal yellow, green, light green, rose, etc
@zerocool1ist

5 out of 10 jewelers will admit that when it comes to the color between 10k and 14k solid gold chains there is such a subtle difference its basically unnoticeable especially to a layman. I have even tested this out by laying out 3 10k chains and 3 14k chains same mm and length and tested 3 people asking them to tell me which are 10k and which are 14k and all 3 times people were picking up the 14k saying they were 10k. You really don't notice a color difference in gold color until you get above 14k.

That’s nonsense . My mother had only 24k when she arrived in the uk as a young woman. The same set for her ears nose, bangles and necklace . 30 years on they’re the same , not broken . The bangles bent a bit only because she never removed them even for sleep . But we got them straightened up at the jewellery store . I now have her gold since she passed away. And it looks as vibrant as ever . Now if you were nose rings like western ones which need bending to put on then I’d say to be cautious even with 18k. They’re not pieces to keep swapping out. However if you desire to remove such pieces all the time then a hinged ring is safer. But studs bangles necklaces it doesn’t matter as long as you like The darker yellow

Your chains need to be professionally clean water and soup is not going to do anything.. And if your chain doesn’t change then you have bad quality chains. I had 14 kt rope for 15 years and it still looks beautiful with no signs of tarnish I have a 22 kt also but it is to soft and it would bend. 22 kt is to soft for a chain you have to literally be careful with it. Now I just wear my 18 kt and 14 kt ropes. 22kt I only wear for special occasions

Apparently in the west people used to wear 22k gold. Only after the war , people started with 14k and 10k for affordability issues . And retailers started playing on ppls minds ie white skin better with lower karat gold. Well no depend on your undertone and also your own preferences . I recently purchased a 14k nose stud . They are far cheaper by 40% or more compared to 18k pieces. And consider nose studs are tiny, they really do commit daylight robbery with all Known body jewellery brands 😂 So I got one and on my nose it honestly looks like either white gold with tinge or just fake gold. But it’s a reputable retailer it’s 14k. However on my ear it looks more yellow and brighter , my ears are several shades lighter than my nose 😂. So I will keep this one for my ear . But no more 14k gold for me, it doesn’t pop on my face . I’d be better off with bright white gold if I wanted that look. Ps if gauges aren’t an issue for you regarding body jewellery Indian gold shops are the best. They can’t be matched on prices or karat . I can get a beautiful 22k nose stud for £60-£100. Or a £100 upwards for a nose ring with jewels . However they lack wirh gauges . And unless they measure the gauge for you right there I wouldn’t buy it. I’ve been there before their gauges are usually super thin or wire ends . So you could end up with cheese cutter effect with nose rings . With studs not so bad just make sure they’re internally threaded and no platings , they seem to add plating to make it appear even more yellow.. bonkers 😂. But this is important to note if you are sensitive or allergies , or you had reactions in the past. For these reasons I use western brands for nose and ear jewellery , my favourite for quality and 18k gold is Anatometal. All other companies offer 14k and you have to custom order 18k which can take many months . But if you don’t mind waiting brands are willing to offer 18k also

And you have to realize most manufacturers put a flash plating on jewelry so the "flash" plating will eventually wear off. You seem like you just started into this gold jewelry collection and you gotta remember all things jewelry are not an investment if you buy bullion that can be considered one but jewelry will never be.

The majority of these comments who have 10k and 14kt probably never had higher purity gold and they wanna shit on it and itself just pure ignorance. People that say 22kt and 24kt are soft. We cant forget they are metals and lets say you play basketball game or take your vehicle off roading. What’s gonna happen to it? It will probably bend or break. I myself have 14k,18k,22k, and 24k jewelry. They’ve held up pretty well because I take care of them. After switching to higher purity, I will never go back to the lower purity because the higher purity hold up their value and wont tarnish. You gotta get thicker gold though. I dont get anything below 3 to 4 mm gold. I have 22k 6 mm rope bracelet from Jacoje and a 24k ring from Mené.
