Even if you're in a slump, I'm delighted to see a video from you. You're one of my favorite BookTubers. I actually like that you never seem to crank out videos just for the sake of making more content, so when you do make a video it's a bit more exciting. On a slump related note, I've been "reading" Orlando by Virginia Woolf for about six weeks now. By which I mean it's been sitting on my coffee table looking helpless while I do everything on earth except finish the last fifty pages or so. This definitely hasn't been a very bookish year for me either.

A lot of what you've said feels really relatable to me. Especially about wondering what our place is on the bookish internet now. It feels like the content I started watching a few years ago - videos like yours and Mercedes and Sabrina - are fewer and farther between. Its hard to know where to fit in among all the challenge reading and celebrity reading vlogs! I always appreciate your perspective and your content so I will be happy to watch anything you film, if and when you do. And solidarity with the whole "real life" situation - it can feel kind of isolating when you just want to talk about books with your pals on the internet but other life takes priorities. Hoping for a bright and healthy new year for you and your family ❤

Be inconsistent, make videos that aren't necessarily book related, don't make videos if you don't want to. I'm not going to quit following you if life happens and things change. Growing pains, my friend, happen to the best of us. I don't think I've ever posted consistently (probably why I'm a small booktuber) but if I'm not feeling it, why force it?

As for good books, I've just finished the middle grade book The House at the Edge of Magic by Amy Sparkes and really enjoyed it. I gave it about a 3.75 but also ended seriously looking forward to opening the next in series and devouring it ASAP.

Not having enough capacity for reading and booktube is something I've been going through with too much work in the last two years as well. I always wanted to make more videos but it was just too exhausting and like you said, KZitem doesn't support infrequent videos and single reviews. Also I started to feel I don't have anything to say, or don't read the right kind of books (as if that were even a thing). The work situation has finally calmed down to normal again and I am hoping to find more time for booktube next year and want to see if that affects the views and also the joy I get out of it again. I'm glad I didn't give up on it while I was so overwhelmed and since I am a pure excapist reader (content consumer) my reading was only affected in what I read but not how much. At some point I was okay with not putting out more and I think that was the best way to go instead of always feeling bad for not hitting the 2 videos a week like I used to. Take your time and adjust to your new life and see how booktube and reading fit into that, and if it doesn't have a place anymore, we will miss you, but understand.

Hi, Rincey! I love seeing a video from you pop up, I won't mind if they're more sporadic. You do you! I read and loved "Tom Lake" this year too, and I also read "Commonwealth" and adored it. I started my Ann Patchett journey because of your review of "The Dutch House" way back when. "Bel Canto" is waiting for me, but I'm in too much of a holiday brain slump to concentrate on that right now. :P

Hi Rincey, good to see you! I love an individual book review so there are definitely us out here who would watch if you do have time to post the odd one here and there 😊 As for good books, I loved Love Letters: Vita and Virginia [Sackville-West and Woolf]. Since it's letters it's made for those short bits of time you have capacity to read, in fact I'd recommend reading it like that to everyone - spending a while with it is part of its charm to me. The writing is beautiful, the incidental comments about what's happening at the time (like World War 2) are fascinating, and overall it just slowly crept up on me to become one of my favourite books this year.

Awww! Hi Rincey! Nice to see you as always and honestly glad to hear I am not alone in feeling the reading slump and the burn out/midlife crisis-y ( made up a word) feelings. I have been following you since the Book Riot days so I feel like I know you and will follow your channel no matter how many videos you decide to make in the future- even if it's zero or you just decide to do some live chats occasionally about books with your peeps here! You have to do whatever is best for you! My reading life has changed so much recently too. There was a time where I easily read a book a week and lately that has been a big challenge. I think the bigger challenge was me thinking negatively about the change in my reading habits. I just need to get used to the idea of my not reading as much I guess. Maybe you are in the same boat. I just wanted to say hi and let you know that I hear ya! Also, I read This Golden State by Marit Weisenberg on your recommendation and it was definitely one of the best books I read this year! Other books I enjoyed and had trouble putting down in case you want to check them out: The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James (pretty sure you read this one already though and I likely read it because of your recommendation), the Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton, The Guest by Emma Cline, Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson. Hope you can breathe easier in December and can use the end of the year as a time to reflect on the good, the bad and the ugly and have a nice fresh start in 2024! Cheers !:)

Since you're looking for recommendations, I'll share a few. Muppets in Moscow by Natasha Lance Rogoff is the story of a Russian version of Sesame Street being made in Russia just after the Soviet Union fell. The audiobook is well narrated and sometimes well sung. The Dress Diary Secrets From a Victorian Woman's Wardrobe by Kate Strasdin is about a dress historian who is given an antique book in which an English woman from the early 19th century had pasted swatches of fabric from her own and others' clothes. The historian then researches the lives of everyone in the book. It has a warm, intimate feel. As You Wish by Cary Elwes is the story of the making of The Princess Bride. The audiobook is narrated by most of the original cast.

Hi Rincey. I've followed your book vlogs and new book releases with Book Riot. Occasional reading slumps happens to readers from time to time. Perhaps returning to literary periods (ex. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences.

Hi Rincey! Nice to see you! I think what you're going through it completely understandable, sometimes life gets intense and we only have so much time and brain capacity for things and we need to prioritize. I'm working and studying atm which means I haven't read nearly as much as I would've liked this year, and a lot of the things I did read were for class, but it is what it is and I have to focus on that. You should do what you feel like doing in your free time and if that isn't reading or booktube right now it's okay! My favorite book I've read this year is Sistersong by Lucy Holland.

Hi Rincey, thank you so much for this video! I comment infrequently, but I wanted to say the following. (Sorry, long comment incoming.) When I look back at what books I have really enjoyed reading, the ones that stuck with me and were undeniably worth my time, so many of them have been ones I've heard about from your channel. The Unseen World by Liz Moore, These Precious Days, which was the first Ann Patchett I've read after you mentioning her books several times, also now favourite authors like Silvia Moreno-Garcia or Sujatha Massey. (I could keep going.) Not to mention other booktubers your recommendations led me to, like Jennifer (Insert Lit Pun). The reason I mention this (other than to say: thank you!) is to say is that even if you were to post infrequently, your contributions to KZitem would be pearls to be appreciated. The algorithm may not like it, but the videos themselves would be valuable, and, I think, loved. All this is not to put any pressure on you to post anything at all, obviously. You know what your life and circumstances dictate, and how to best spend your time. Your well-being is paramount. It's just a note to say that what you have been doing is appreciated in ways that are perhaps hard to glean from metrics. Also, this is probably true for other areas of life as well. I've certainly had the feeling of "not doing anything well" - it is easy to feel this when so many of your circumstances change in quick succession. You've always radiated so much poise and grace in everyday things in your videos. I imagine you may have pretty high standards for how well you should do things. For what it's worth, I would bet you are doing a great job. It takes time to find your footing with new settings. It will come. All right, enough waffling, I'm off to put Tom Lake on hold at the library, since you say it's good. To leave an actual recommendation: have you read Convenience Store Woman? Or The Cat Who Saved Books? Both translated from Japanese, not very long, fable-like and pristine. Anna P
