Capitalism (not corporatism!) has been the single best method of pulling people out of poverty. Of enabling them to reach beyond poverty FOR REAL. Socialism just expands poverty.

I disagree, 'capitalism' has in fact increased the level of economic inequality that disenfranchises the majority of people, the gap between rich and poor is larger than ever. Also, the five-year plans of China are anything but free-market or 'capitalist' in nature.

Munda Don’t conflate poverty with the economic gap. The gap between me and Bill Gates can expand without destroying my life. Poverty is the blight. If you tell a person they are PROHIBITED from capitalizing on their labor, skill, knowledge, dedication, etc.... sorry, that doesn’t promote wealth. That doesn’t help them get above the waterline. And.... who are you to enslave them. Yes, i said enslave. When the government takes the lions share of my income, and suppresses my capacity to earn... they ARE enslaving me. If slavery is forcing someone to work for little or no money....how much of my income do you get to take before I become your slave?

Munda Then join a commune. Don’t force ME to join one. It says a lot when capitalism permits people to create self-sufficient communes.... but socialism WON’T permit capitalistic pockets. So who are the dictators? Who has the power? Who are the abusers? Not the capitalists.

Good info on Sweden, I guess that does away with the lie that high taxes/regulations push out billionaires or 'job creators' lol. The Swedish billionaires are not the ones funding their system, a higher proportion of earnings are given in taxes by the average Swede so they're in fact paying for their govt programs. There they recognize that a well provided for labor force is good for productivity. Compare that with Walmart's business model where most of their workers are on govt assistance and still struggling on starvation wages. We need to be careful when talking about 'capitalists' as if it's one big group, the small business owner like Matt Fradd is not comparable to the CEO and board of investors for Walmart or Wells Fargo, which is where the corrosive aspects of capitalism can be seen. Lastly, the idea of worker co-ops is just not popular at the moment but there are many examples across the rust belt in the US and from other countries, for example the Mondragon corporation of Spain. More discussion and thinking needs to be done before we make a paradigm shift in our way of thinking about society and the economy.

Everything you say is ok but you can't deny the implicit envy and division in socilism. In old URSS they use to say in propaganda "In way to communism", because they considered themsleves a socialist state. Democratic socialism didn't exist, here down in South America know that pretty good. And no, Pope Francis is NOT from the right or the left, he's from Christ.

The point isn’t whether capitalists have good heart or not. It’s the results. Many greedy capitalists who probably are going to hell have lifted millions out of poverty and improved lives by new inventions. Defenders of capitalism aren’t saying that capitalists have admirable personalities. Oh yeah. If Sweden was a sustainable model you would have massive immigration into it. If they had massive immigration, their system would collapse in a few years. If we already have this paradise on earth. Why the hell are people wasting their breath? Also people forget an important factor. Immigrants don’t come to the US in hopes that they’ll have “Sweden grade” wages in stupid dead end jobs in Walmart. They aim for the American Dream. In other words, socialism becomes less attractive once you take out the low hanging fruit. For a middle class, it’s probably the reverse. So in the end, this vision isn’t that attractive for people who are highly motivated and/or entrepreneurs. My brother used to live in Sweden and moved out. Because the red tape is colossal. In Germany for example, it’s very hard to fire an incompetent worker. If you are a boring McJob drone maybe Scandinavia is the dream location for you.

This Neoliberal policy goes hand in hand with usury, which is a sinful economic policy that is among the most condemned in Church history

You can't speak of only the worse case scenarios of socialism or distributism, and compare them to the best case scenarios of capitalism. The best case of capitalism, where a bunch of businesses compete against each other in fair competition wherein the 'best man wins', no longer exists. What we have is a plutocracy that is filled with monopolies and crony capitalism that destroys competition and ironically, is anti-capitalist. I may not agree with the socialists or the democratic socialists, but I do share their frustration with this late-stage capitalistic system. This isn't a theory of what 'could' happen, it's the reality of what is happening. "You're free to set up a cooperative business." How is that possible without capital? How can we even have a true capitalistic economy when only a few have actual capital/ money/ resources? By the way, "Alvarado Street Bakery" isn't some silly "vegan organic bakery," it's one of the highest rated bakeries in California and produces some of the healthiest/ best tasting products anywhere. And they do it without exploitation of either the workers or the environment. Can an average person be a capitalist? No and here's why. Without capital, you can't be a capitalist. It's in the name.
