Actually a lot of soy sauce doesn't even have soy... I KNOW RIGHT? I only found this out once when I was reading the ingredient list on my soy sauce and there wasn't any. Turns out it was "soy-flavored seasoning" lol.

I can only speak from my own personal experience that when I started to eat soy milk and tofu, I got HORRIBLE hot flashes. I had seen on Nutritionfacts that it was supposed to LOWER menopausal symptoms so I got really surprised when it actually worsened mine. Had to give it up sadly...

I know soy may not be bad for everyone, but I know when I eat anything that contains soy I break out really badly (took me years of trial and error to discover that was the trigger). So I don't think it's a great option for everyone. I also think we get over exposed to it because they use it as a filler product in so many foods. I find it impossible to avoid.

I have slept better and felt more calm since starting up consuming soy again, and it definitely has helped reduced hot flashes. I’ve also lost weight naturally and easily since going plant based including soy. One thing I don’t think you mentioned though was something I always heard-soy lowers thyroid function and therefore you then gain weight? I have definitely lost weight personally. Thank you for the video.

The challenge is that soy is added to almost everything via soybean oil, soybeans, soy lecithin, etc..., it is a very cheap option. Tofu and most soy products are very processed and most all processed foods contain soy, so if you are eating tofu, soy protein, edamame, etc...and also eating lots of processed foods you are actually consuming way more soy than you realize. As a pre-menopausal breast cancer survivor estrogen dominate and as you said there is not enough research one way of the other, I have removed it completely from my diet. I will not chance my life to include soy, totally not worth it. I had eaten a lot of soy prior to my diagnosis but removed it 100% from my diet and now incorporate other vegan proteins that are not processed and a much healthier option. I do love you drawing attention to this, it may help others investigate it more.

Every promoter of the "natural is better fallacy:" If it's natural, it can't be bad for you. If It's man-made, it must be bad for you. A rational person: Good. Because phytoestrogens in soy are naturally occurring. Promoter of fallacies: Well that's different.

jean bean yeah. I got tested and soy did not come up as an allergy, but it did show up as being extremely irritating, so I’m soy intolerant. My skin was perfect before consuming soy. After going dairy free and drinking soy milk instead, my face ended up looking absolutely horrible. My doc put ms on heavy duty medicine. Who knew it was just the soy -_-

J5lover1 thats insane! good luck with that, im right there with you having to break up with wheat is still an ongoing battle. soy and wheat are so heavily used in food production its been kinda frustrating. even most livestock consume all soy and wheat diets.

Hey Abbey! Can you talk about (or refer me to one of your other videos) the supposed marketing strategies and government corruption of information about grains and dairy. I've heard that the government only endorses the food pyramid as we know it because of lobbying dollars and not because it's actually good for us. I would just like to hear your opinion- I've learned so much from all of your other videos and I respect whatever you have to say on the topic.

Just speaking from personal experience, I stopped eating soy, beans, dairy and certain seeds for like a month to lower my estrogen so I had easier periods, and to lose weight. I lost weight from specifically my thighs, boobs, and hips, and I heard that the more estrogen you have the more you tend to store weight in those areas. When I ate soy again my thighs got very bloated, which went back to before when I cut it out again. Do you have any thoughts? Is any of this correlated?
@tpn1110

No Asian women have been eating soy for hundreds of years and there are no scientific evidence of them having higher estrogen level. Also in order to get a significant amount of estrogen, you must eat an insane amount of soy.

As a 35 year vegetarian, I honestly haven't eaten that much tofu. Well it is boring as hell and only tastes of what you coat it with or cook it in. So it has to be chopped pretty small to get more flavour. Personally I'm full of beans after every meal! But here in the UK all the supermarkets now sell soya milk with added B12 (they have to call it soya "drink" by law).
