So since having these installed it feels like I’ve got an extra octave of bass they make everything much tighter...they also measure with more low end...weird stuff but a worthy upgrade!

I bought the Gaia III a month a go to use under the stands my Harbeth SHL5 sit on. I instantly heard a difference but was not quite certain it was a positive one, so after a week letting my ears adjust, I re-installed the spikes under the stands. Within one or two songs it was pretty clear that the sound was way better with the Gaia, it sounded like everything kind of fell apart with the spikes back on. Put em back and never going back! As others have observed, the mid-bass is more focused, mids become more intelligible and improvement in image and focus is very clear. At first I thought I lost some bass, but that bass was really what was resonating into the floor, once my ears adjusted there was clearly no loss of extension, in fact it made it more defined. Touching and feeling vibration through my stands to the floor was tested before and after, big difference was apparent to touching the hardwood floor. If your room is on wooden joists....suspended floor, you will see maximum benefits as suspended floors are more prone to vibration than, let's say a basement concrete floor. My room is well treated with bass trapping and lots of diffusion and broadband absorbers, this addition was the icing on the cake!

Wow...I really was not expecting THAT kind of a difference. And I'm hearing the difference clearly, even though this is a recording (albeit a very high fidelity recording) of your monitor setup, which I'm hearing through my monitor setup - such a difference. B seems so effortless sounding - open, 3D, has such depth and really powerful low mid, as you mentioned. Even though your previous setup must have sounded amazing, when you switch back to A now, it sounds a little 'pinched' in the high mids, a bit light in the low mids...even sounds a bit more 'mono'. Amazing!

Hi Streaky. I just bought a KII Three BXT system. Are you using yours with GAIA I? I think that GAIA III (32Kg per leg) would be enough. I have seen the GAIA series includes M8 and 1.25 pitch. The BXT are M8 with 1 pitch. Did you buy a separate adapter? I would appreciate your response.

OK I didn't expect to hear a difference! I suspected that they would affect the low frequencies, but get the impression that mainly the stereo image improved. That contradicts my "theory" that especially large speakers would profit from it. Could it be that the spikes deal well with the bass but are to "stiff" to allow the speaker to resonate freely through the entire spectrum? I always thought of decoupling as avoiding resonances in the surface the speakers stand on, but maybe it is also about not dampening the speaker.

Listened three times through my iPhone, laptop speakers & headphones. Firstly, your room sounds great Streaky! Secondly, it seems like I hear the low mids standout more in the B mix, plus it sounds a bit more narrow/centered. Mix A however seems to have a bit more presence to my ears on all mediums- and it's a bit more [playfully] wider & easier on the ears in the transient. One of these is probably more flat in frequency response (not sure which is which), I'd certainly go with that. If I was choosing I'd lean more towards A unless B is an unmastered track that really has low mid issues and width to resolve. The more honest one is gonna be more important.

To be honest I couldn't really tell which one sounded better listening to your test on my headphones (on my computer) when I did your test for a second time. I do know however that the Gaia2 did make an impressionable difference in the flesh when I added them to my speakers. The trade-off though is the floor doesn't rumble when you're going loud and sometimes you actually want that.

A sounds more "shallow" in the lower bass region to my ears. B sounds more "round". I prefer B, but having said that, I was just listening on my headphones. Great investment, Streaky! People invest in lots of outboard gear while their rooms and speakers could use a lot of improvement. Have you heard about audiophiles that put heavy metal slabs on top of the speakers to improve the sound of the speaker? Is there anything to it? I was thinking of putting rubber and some concrete blocks on the top of my Klein & Hummel O300D monitors to test the theory, but I did not get to it yet, as I'm currently producing an album, and when I'm producing, I'm not mixing.

I think it’s important to mention the way the isoacoustic Gaia’s work, that their compliance and the inherent dampening is a ‘matched/tuned’ system, the different sizes, 1,2,3 are related to the mass of the speakers they support. A similar system is the Townsend Seismic platform which works in a tuned frequency way, isolating the speakers placed on them from frequencies above 4Hz, as I recall. The Isoacoustics are also orientation particular, the logo should point directly forward on all 4 as the fore/aft and side/side tunings are slightly different to account for the fore/aft moving mass of the speaker diaphragms.

there is a clear difference, that's not the problem!... but my guess is that the speaker(s) got tilted/moved a tiny, tiny bit, even if by mistake... given the size of the sweetspot triangle, toeing/moving the speaker even the slightest bit should be pretty noticeable... as in this example: I feel that the A has better center image and B is a bit more wide... I won't discuss the tonal aspects since I for one am pretty sure that the speakers or distance or mics or 'something'... (I don't know what but my bet is on the speakers) ... got moved/changed even if a tiny bit... it sound like that to me... the 'comb-filtering' aspect of the sound has changed like that... I'm inclined to say B is better but to be fair, I personally find the test to be more than less inconclusive.

For poor man's iso check out Mason UK...cheap and they work just as good as anything if you get the loading right (amount of deflection)...I'm of the opinion isolation is definitely good for subs, they become harder to locate, bass sorta floats in the room, especially if the sub isn't centered...not sure they really matter as much for nearfields tbh, maybe if you monitor loud and have a wobbly /resonant desk...I can certainly hear a difference in this, B definitely sounds tighter, 100% able to blind test that...a null test (and maybe a live transfer function between A and B) would have been good.
