To anyone who is getting a CDS turret, do NOT order it without using a chrono, and even better actually verifying drop. It’s very rare the ammo will shoot exactly as the box says. there’s way too many factors. Even if you know the fps, it’s common for more drop to occur than expected. Simply set up a target as far as you can shoot and download a good ballistics app like strelok pro. Work out how much elevation you need to hit the target at x distance, and work backwards to find your velocity. Simply plug in the bullets BC ( given your twist is fast enough ) and determine your velocity and verified drop. 500y is a good range for this, possibly even 300y for a slower cartridge like a 350. Then when you get your CDS turret there’s no verifying. You’ve already verified it and it will 100% shoot bag on. The further you do this at the more accurate it will be. To a certain point, 1000yards may throw it off as the BC is decreasing, but the standard CDS user I wouldn’t think would shoot that far.

22 inch barrel, vs 16 inch barrel could play a factor into what Leupold was using for ballistics also.
@jonquirk9582
Жыл бұрын
It does! The 2325 fps that winchester advertises on the box for the 150 gr deer season xp, states that advertised velocities are out of a 20 inch barrel. So he's going to lose quite a bit of velocity by using a gun barrel 4 inches shorter than the ones winchester chrono'd the round with.

Even efficient cartridges with excellent expansion ratios (like the 350 LGD) exploit additional barrel lengths. In the age of shorter is better mentality, many claim that the difference is negligible. My bolt action Savage in 300 Blackout is a perfect example. Some believe that anything over 9 to 12 inches is a waste. Shooting in a well lit indoor range, my 16 inch barrel was producing a noticeable ball of fire at the muzzle. Depending on the propellant, the Blackout can increase FPS significantly with a 20 inch barrel. I put a faux suppressor flash hider on that’s about six inches long. It has mitigated the blast signature very well. With modestly powered cartridges, extra inches equals more FPS. Were I an operator, clearing indoor structures, a shorter barrel is preferred. For hunting and target builds, more is usually better. Boomer Out! 🎉

About 2 years ago I was chatting with Leupold online looking for something JUST like this for a .450 Bushmaster and the rep laughed at me saying that would be nice if it were that easy. I ended up using a lever action scope calibrated for Hornady leverution 44 magnum from Cabellas and the hold over marks were perfect for the .450 100-200 yds. Now I picked up a 350 legend and leuopold makes this scope for both, imagine that.

The Ruger American rifles in 16 inch length lose a lot of velocity so the Ballistics data published by ammunition manufactures is not accurate when using a 16 inch barrel. It was a painful lesson I learned when shooting my Ruger American 450 Bushmaster with a 16 inch barrel. I checked Hornady's website and the ballistics data on the .350 Legend ammunition comes from a 20 inch barrel.

Excellent video! Looks like Winchester is the only company with 150 grain. Hornady has 165 and 170 grain. Best comparison is prolly the Winchester 180 grain vs Federal 180 grain which is all that Federal makes for the 350 legend. Both are considered bear and hog rounds. Late doe season in Mich. I purchased and sighted in an AR-15 350 Legend. Could only find 145 FMJ . Sighted in at 100 yards. 3 rounds similar group as yours with the same scope. Shot a doe at approx 70/80 yards. Meat in the freezer. Now here's what I do: I educate people on how if they believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life! People are like computers; we all have a default mode. It is that we are all sinners, headed toward hell. GOD's Word declares, For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God....Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved.

I would think its close but you wont be able to match it with your load until you chronograph it. I recently shot a muley in Wyoming this year with a 300 wm. The load was matched to my cds for all the specifics like velocity, bullet weight, bc, temp, elevation....and got a one shot kill at 683 yards. Just spin the dial and hold dead on. Cant you just get a different "custom" dial matched to guns velocity and swap it out with the existing dial. It is a custom dial system after all.

I've been looking at these Ruger Americans in 350 Legend for a while and Dunham's Sports has one in the green stock predator package with Vortex scope...has a 22" barrel, which I would imagine would help greatly with velocity and bullet stabilization. But there's always that fine line between too short and too long so who knows...it must be a Dunham's exclusive because it's not on the Ruger website

@Kyle G good to know I'll have to see if I can find it. As long as it wasn't until the upper 20's that it started to slow it down that wouldn't be a problem. Most of the "normal" rifles I've seen are around 22" barrel. The only issue I have with the 350 Legend is that most manufacturers seem to be setting up these rifles with heavy barrels for suppressors.

@@scotteger6271 a 22" barrel is still pretty handy to carry in the brush and I think it would be a lot better balance for off hand shooting. I have shot a friends ruger 77 compact and it feels too light on the muzzle to me.I would rather have a 22" barrel than a 16" barrel personaly.
