You should always keep the water cold BEFORE carbonation because the water will hold the carbonation better and it will carbonate more efficiently. It's a simple physics principle.

So you're basically using the SodaStream as a regulator. Which is cool. You can also buy a regulator for about $20. So with the CO2 tank and a regulator and a little bit of beverage line you can carbonate empty soda bottles. If you're looking to get into it and you don't already have a SodaStream, I recommend going that route. With a regulator you can also dial up or down how much CO2 you're putting into the bottle to make things more or less fizzy.

Just so folks know: mileage may vary! I charge at least one 1-liter bottle a day (sometimes 2) and my small Soda Stream c02 tank lasts me at least 3 months. Also, the cost of canister exchange here in my NC town is a flat $16. Our local Staples and Target keep them in stock. That being said, the main reason I have a Soda Stream is for convenience and to reduce the waste of single use bottles and cans.

This doesn't math up. 1 liter bottle, at least once a day for 3 months. That's a minimum of 90, 1L size bottles. Even if you go by the 840mL fill line, that's a minimum of 75L worth of carbonated water. The company states it does 60L, which I have not gotten close to. The closest I have gotten to is 35 of the 1 L size bottles, which is about 30L of actually carbonated water. What's your hack for getting at least 75L of carbonated water from a single 410g co2 cylinder?

@@kunjpatel8442 Thanks for the math. That makes sense. I can not explain it. I just know I keep tight financial records and this is how often I have been purchasing refills. @@mcsmamawhat a siphon is in a 20 lb CO2 canister or any refillable CO2 canister for that matter, is essentially a tube that runs from the valve at the top of the tank to the bottom where the CO2 is in a liquid form. I cannot explain how, but this makes complete use of all the CO2 in the canister as opposed to drawing CO2 from the gas state at the top of the tank if it does not have this tube.

The stores were always out and I would forget to go so I was always out so I feel the $7 is totally worth it to me. Am I saving money? Well who knows. I do know that it doesn't' seem to cost more. But there are some huge upsides beyond money. One I don't have to go to the store all the time and lug a bunch of soda back to my house all the time. The big heavy boxes of canned soda or multiple 2 liters. The aren't clogging up my recycle all the time. And I have such a huge choice of flavor without a lot of room being taken up in my cabnets. I was a long time sodastream user but I moved over to BonneO when it became available. Math was cheaper using citric acid and baking soda. Moved back over to using CO2 canisters in December 2023 with a Ninja and ultrima cosa. I was closely monitoring usage with sodastream and getting 55-58L per 60L canister. I did hear about some people getting half that. I also heard that sodastream purposely sold some canisters half full, calling them “starter tanks”. I always used to get my tanks refilled through a local family who was refilling them at half the cost, and I would always get 55-58L. Now that I’m back into using CO2 canisters, there are many more options rather then using sodastream refills. $9-$12 through multiple mainstream companies that sell their canisters alongside sodastream at the stores (in Canada). I never got into using the 5lb canister method because here food-grade CO2 places are harder to find. Sports stores here don’t do refills and brew shops are hard to find.

I previously owned the SS CRYSTAL, but the base snapped, and I couldn't find replacement parts. I've since transitioned to the more eco-friendly DrinkMate. It can carbonate any juice or mixed drink without the need for extra water dilution, and it's also compatible with universal 60ml CO2 thread canisters, unlike the SS, which requires their own patented qikrelease, presumably due to Pepsi's acquisition, not sure why they need to keep over 20 plastic SS bottles lying around. I thought these machines were meant to eliminate this problem?

Hear people in the comments saying they use 10lb tanks. Is this hose safe. Is it compromising the machine at all like it’ll blow one day. Also what kind of co2 I see Amazon description says don’t use liquid co2 it can effect the taste. Is regular food grade co2 generally only gas

For the European viewers, the adapter is being sold under the SPRUDELUX brand and can be bought through the Dutch and German Amazon store. This saves about 80 euros in taxes and shipping from the US which you can use to buy a 2kg CO2 tank.

Because I make my own kegged beer...I have an even cheaper way to carbonate bottles. The connection set up from a beer making C02 tank is all you need plus some adapters. You purchase the C02 tank, regulator and hose with proper connector to a PEPSICO can ( that's the name of the fittings on those stainless 5 gallon tanks). Now ALL you need is an adapter from the Beer Store where you screw the adapter onto ANY pepsi bottle, Coke bottle, ANY bottle with those treads, but NOT spring water bottles, ONLY bottles designed to hold pressurized liquids for sale ...ANY pop bottle will do. You just pour your fluid into the empty pop bottle, screw on the adapter, turn the regulator up to about 20 to 40 psi, shake the bottle up for a minute and POOF, you have carbonated water/pop. When you pour your first glass of pop, just replace the adapter with a regular cap ...BUT, I love my pop to be " fizzy" right down to the last drop, that what I do is give the pop bottle a shot of C02 when it's half empty, now when I open that half empty bottle of pop, it's as fresh as the first drink. It's very convenient to use 2 liter pop bottles for this...AND ... not many people know this, but keep the C02 tank INSIDE a second fridge makes the pop fizze up so much better.

Loved this video, however I don't like carbonated anything. Tried those drinks from Omaha, that were very fizzy, dumped it down the sink.😮

just find it odd that a canister only works for 20L instead of the advertised 60L... Its a huge difference, is this confirmed?

Odd pricing on 1L at Walmart. Here in Canada, where we always pay more for less, 2L of soda (including club soda -seltzer) is everyday low price of 97 cents. So that’s 71 cents USD for 2L. Maybe the pricing difference comes in the fact the soda companies can use all the fresh water they want without paying for it. I’m sure every other country, water is treated as a commodity, especially if a company is flavouring it and reselling it.

Thanks for this. I bought one of the E-Terra bundles on Amazon because the math finally seemed to work then I saw your video. Had all 5 kids home for New Years and I lost track of how many times we all used it without a hitch. So glad to have convenient soda water. And a 5 pound swap is $15 in my area

If you use cold water to make the fizzy water, how long will the water stay fizzy? I'm hearing it's not too long, but that might be user error I guess. Thanks!
