His excuse was I brought debt into the marriage, and if I didn't have personal debt, that money could go towards rent, utilities and food, and he wouldn't need to contribute to our finances. He said it wasn't his responsibility to make up the difference. And since he had no debt, he didn't have to work. When I said he needed to help with shared expenses like rent, he'd circle back to my personal debt and say if I didn't have it, then the whole rent would be paid. That was his mentality. We need to understand the situation to be able to determine if the husband is responsible for this. Or, you know, people could just stay married to the father/mother of their children and avoid these types of situations.

@@neutralcommenter7800 Oh No, they are married. Keep in mind once he starts putting money towards the house payment it is no longer separate property. It is then comingled. When you get married you are both supposed to be all in, not in only as much as he wants to be. My wife and I also have separate accounts plus a separate one for all joint expenses, but we both know what we make and how much we have. They are newly married so all the cards need to be on the table.

I would never put up with “my money/his money” crap. I know someone who lives like that and she has NO money for herself or their kids. Her husband gambles, plays sports, goes to the bar with his friends, etc…with HIS money.

@@hollyb6885 That doesn't really answer my question. Is he not paying towards their bills or expenses and it's all on her? I'm not understanding why she wouldn't have money and he does if they make about the same and split expenses.

@@janise01 They don’t split expenses. She pays the household bills out of her money. He spends his money on himself. Two separate bank accounts. @@hollyb6885 Oh ok so it's not really a "her money/his money" issue as under that dynamic both are still responsible for their split of expenses. He's just a user and would be doing this crap even if the money all went into the same account. She just needs to leave him.

$13,000 over a period of a Couple of years could definitely add up to $13k e.g., $28k on 2 cards equal approximately $600/mo interest if you are making monthly minimum payments. If you're unable to clear your CC balance(s) monthly you can get in trouble very quickly. Sad... 28
