I used this in like 2019 to boost FPS in CSGO because I saw it on youtube and I installed it on my slow ass office PC. I genuinely never noticed a change in anything. And to be honest it's such a small difference that it isn't really that important. Interesting topic non the less. Great channel btw, keep up the vids

Amit's fine-tuning timer resolution works even better. You should check out different intervals around .5 (.506, 5.1 etc). Sleep delta changes dramatically with it. Would be cool to see some capframex results with them as well.

Just so people have this clear, this timing doesnt affect your game's main systems directly, just some of the background stuff the game does. Ofc modern engines are huge so you can measure some impact. (From the tiny bit of reading ive done it looks like the performance impact is likely to be from re-awakening slept threads. When I tested for my own engine, sleeping the thread to cap the fps consistently made each frame ~1-2ms longer than intended)

Last time i checked, most modern games set timer resolution automatically to 0.5ms. But that was some years ago on Win10.

If you are not cpu bottlenecked it usually performs very well and improves your input lag. If you are, I highly suggest not modifying it since it will very likely cause stability issues with inputs.

Sorry to interject but ISLC has been unhelpful for a while since it was only needed on older Windows 10 builds. It's most often better to not use it at all nowadays

you have to do some more steps: open cmd as admin and type bcdedit /set useplatformclock yes bcdedit /set disabledynamictick (for desktop put NO, for notebook put YES) bcdedit /set useplatformtick no then you need to use ISLC to set timer, and put it as low as possible (like 0.001). I've bench and all latency went down and fps up to go back to stock (in case didn't work well for u): bcdedit /deletevalue useplatformclock bcdedit /deletevalue disabledynamictick yes bcdedit /deletevalue useplatformtick

Dont use CTR anymore if you are on windows 10 and 11 there is no need anymore this will actually create problems with your mouse aspect ratio and you will find that you will be missing shots by pixels do not use this. If you do keep this in mind.. only time id use this is if i only had 8gb of memory and really needed extra ram memory

I think timer resolution or at least this method only works well with specific engines. Fortnite has clear benefits from it at 0.5 but my FPS in Doom Eternal, which runs on OpenGL, halved from averaging about 160 ish to 80. 160 being the app closed and 80 being the app on in 0.5. I believe i remember seeing about 120 ish average on 1ms. And its definitely not because of my CPU because im averaging about 60ish percent usage.

from quick googling i've come to the conclusion that nothing actually changes if you change how clock works, second irl is not a second in pc anymore so after that it calculates not frames per second, but something like frames per 0.95 seconds your fps numbers go bigger but they are invalid :^)

The timer being lower allows it to decipher changes at that number, so it’s mostly great for latency sensitive tasks. If you look into delta and standard deviation you can learn a great deal more from timer res too

When I hit maximum in the timer resolution app it sets it to 0.497 and then when I hit it again it goes to 0.500 but then when I close out and reopen it the value goes back to 1.000. Got any fixes?

You also shouldn't do this at all on a laptop, since those tend to have dynamic timer resolution depending on the required accuracy, to maximize performance and battery life.

I can notice benefits by removing windows overlay in dx11 games like rocket league.. i can tell thru testing, been multiple times where i boot rocket league and go "nah i feel like rubber wtf is dis" then use the volume dial and notice wi dows overlay is on, i recomend a video on this one, maybe it affects other apps less, equally, or more? And why? ❤

Quick question Khorvie. So I had my latencymon for my nvidia drivers down to like 300 before but not I'm getting spikes of like 1100 on it. Would be best to ddu and just reinstall the driver? I just hate doing that because my Fortnite is always laggy for a while after trying to redo shaders. Let me know or just leave it.

Also just something to add, in older win10 versions which don't need the reg key, usually need the bcdedit useplatformtick yes added, otherwise timer resolution will give funky numbers like 0.496

A few years ago i had constant micro stutters when playing Black Desert Online. I tried everything and the ONLY thing that solved the stutters was increasing the timer resolution. So, it actually has an effect. Not sure if it improves system responsiveness tho. BTW it would be great if somebody gets amit's timer resolution tool.

If you measure your timer sleep it would still be 15ms. For that, open the program "DPC Latency Checker 1.4", and while it's still open it will change the timer function and if you measure the timer sleep again it will be close to 1ms.

using valorant as an example, sometimes when the game ends and i go to main menu my pc gets completely frozen for like 1 minute and then come backs as normal, could it be because of timer resolution? in game itself i dont have a single lag its just when the game ends

I think that would have to do more so another issue, work on debloating your system background usage and see if that helps
