Thanks for your sublime advice, Jessica. I am currently having this struggle of juggling various side characters, and even had to cut one out entirely when I realised that he just didn't fit into the storyline anymore.

Last year, your book saves me from writing a boring novel. For that, I will always be your fan. Now I'm gonna watch all your videos. Thank you.

I know I have way too many characters. But the plot has various factions and both the protagonist and the antagonist team wouldn't go on their respective missions with just two or three members. After finishing the first draft, I decided to drastically reduce the number of characters who have POV. But they all have to stay there as people with names and at least a bit of a backstory.

Can't say how many times I've stubbornly tried to hold onto a character that wasn't working! I put ones I really like in "the station," which is where I bank idea/character/subplots that aren't working now for possible use later!

I find combining, rather than cutting, r Ed ally helps me develop well-rounded characters instead of 1 dimensionals

Thank you for this advice. My novel is a dual POV romance, so each MC has side characters and I worry if I have side-character overload.
