Tips for how to train family members to follow your rules around your dog?
@TI3RU
5 ай бұрын
if this is a genuine question, my best idea would be to tell them what they should and shouldn't do around your dog, and if they don't follow those instructions then let them know you're limiting how much time they get to spend with your dog (sadly only works if you live away from family)

It's been three years and my parents can't resist encouraging the jumping behaviour ("shes so cute" they say, "Why are we ignoring her best efforts to say hi"😓).. 😂... but most people who visit are able to follow, and thankfully that's been helping. Persistence helps a lot, some dogs may be more stubborn than others! 😅

My dogs have never jumped on people for some reason, and they’re very gentle with my 92 year old great grandmother. I used this method on my friends dogs though because im over there alot and it works great😂

Jumping is a learned behavior. Exited pups will naturally jump around when exited but owners that encourage the behavior or even join in with play are reinforcing that behavior until the dog gets big and it isn't so cute anymore. That is why you have to teach them that Jumping is not ok from the time they are puppies. By the time they are an adult Jumping is the farthest thing from their mind.

What I do with my dog to avoid him jumping up, since I can't completely train him not to jump up on people since the rest of my family love the hugs he gives so.... what I do I only pet him with all 4 paws on the floor when I get home and before I do anything else, I give him enough attention for him to be satisfied And I haven't been jumped on for over 6 months now
@kohlraedirectioner

For a situation like this it may be a good idea to teach him to jump up on command. It'll only work if you can get the people who want his hugs on board, but it's worth considering.
@icefirewolfodell9946
5 ай бұрын
@kohlraedirectioner yeah He mainly jumps up on people for attention My mom doesn't pet the dogs every second of every day And the dog learned, "If I jump up on you, you will pet me!" So... that can be difficult I tell her to pet him with all 4 paws on the floor, but honestly, she only pets him when he jumps up or randomly throughout the day She's a germaphobe. She washes her hands after touching anything, and knowing how dirty dogs get...yeah, she doesn't pet them often

@ashwilliams4959

That's usually cause they let or encourage your dog to jump. You've gotta ignore the person and teach your dog what YOU expect from him Running up to other dogs is a difficult 1 but treats and keeping focus on you while passing dogs is the trick

Ignoring your dog is not recommended for dogs that don't jump. I call my dog to me when I come home, (but she usually is coming to greet me), and she never jumps, but let's me know she is SO happy we are reunited. She knows I put down my stuff and then she gets big love. Please don't feel like you need to ignore your dog every time you come in the house. They need to know you are thier best friend and being back together is AWESOME!

Need a video for crate training a 10 year old dog that has become blind with major anxiety/separation issues. My wife had her since she was 6 weeks old, we’ve tried every chewable, treat and medication through 8 different vets. The issue is that she can’t be left alone out of the cage anymore since we are renting and she has a bladder issue. But then the opposite is we crate her and she barks non stop, still pees and poops in the cage but also started biting the metal cage and has ultimately lost the majority of her teeth now because of it. We share walls with neighbors as we live in a town house so this is causing issues there as well now. We have tried trainers and also tried sitting with her to treat the behavior of entering the cage by herself and laying down, but it all goes out the window when we leave the house. Nothing has helped.

My dog somehow can learn tricks and other stuff pretty easily and fast so somehow I have taugh him to jump like that when asked to by tapping on my chest (when he is excited and kind of asking if he can do it) if I do not give permission, he will not do it. Instead of jumping, he just asks me to scratch his butt by leaning his butt on my legs and stare at me :')

My grandma has a huge Great Pyrenees that always jumps on her, she’s got scratches all over from her, I’ve tried working with her and she doesn’t ever jump on me but she won’t stop jumping on her. I’ve tried getting her to actually train the dog not to jump but she feels she’s being mean to the dog.
